Top 25 YouTube Fitness Channels

Courtesy of FRUGAL FITNESS TV
It's been a HUGE year for YouTube Fitness Channels, with more people than ever before getting their workouts, recipes, and fit tips for free from the best gurus in the world. And as The Frugal Fitness Guru, I think this is fantastic for promoting a healthier lifestyle to the masses, no matter what a person's budget might be! So after seeing the YouTube "Next Up Trainer" Series and Shape Magazine's Top 10 YouTube Workout Videos, I decided to make my own list of the Best YouTube Fitness Channels of the this year. Please keep in mind that this is not my list of the best YouTube Fitness Channels of All Time (maybe I'll do one of those down the road), this is based on 2011 and 2012 content and viewership! If a channel made huge improvements and jumps in viewership this year, their rank will reflect that. So despite the fact that I clearly don't have the best YouTube fitness channel, I have spent an enormous amount of time over the years watching YouTube fitness channels and videos, and my credentials in the fitness industry are very strong. Hope you enjoy :)

This originally started out as a Top 15 List but there were too many good channels out there, I felt bad leaving so many out so it became a Top 20 List....and then a Top 25 List. I'm stopping at 25, and that's final! It's nearly impossible to create a list like this without leaving a few people out (not to mention the rankings), so I apologize ahead of time and you can feel free to comment!

HONORABLE MENTIONS:

------------------------------------------------------------------------
And Now The Countdown To The Best of 2011-2012...

You can't have a list of YouTube Fitness gurus without the fitness model formerly known as "Skinny Vinny"! Vince show's you how to bulk up, get stronger, eat clean, and get in fitness model shape like he did, a former hardgainer. Vince Delmonte is one of the original YouTube Fitness Channels and despite his many critics, actually does a pretty good job. The reason he's not ranked much better on this list is because he makes a lot of exaggerated claims on his programs and he's moved his best new video series "Live Large TV" to a pay-only site, booo! Still a good overall channel with plenty of useful videos, worth checking out.

This guy's got some good stuff! All kinds of great fitness, nutrition, weightloss, and gastrointestinal health videos here as Sean Croxton tackles all topics! The guy's got over 40k subscribers, nearly 10 million views, and over 200 videos which are all pretty well done. You can learn a lot from Underground Wellness!
23) Brad Gouthro

Fitness model and author Brad Gouthro's relatively new channel Live Lean TV is one of the biggest new developments on the scene this year. He's ripped to shreds, has incredible quality videos, videos on every topic health and fitness imaginable, and he posts videos 5 days a week every week! Watch his great stuff and see his channel continue to grow exponentially with his enthusiasm and expertise leading the charge!

The champ is here! Mike Chang's Six Pack Shortcuts channel is one of the biggest fitness channels on YouTube when it comes to stats, he has well over 200k subscribers and over 200 million views! The only problem is, a lot of it has come from very aggressive advertising (their fitness ads are everywhere on YouTube!) Also, they only have 76 videos (although the majority of those were made this year which is good for this list), a lot less than many of their competitors. The claims they make on their videos and fitness programs are also grossly exaggerated, taking a page from Vince Delmonte. Mike also seems obsessed with "The Afterburn Effect" of an increased metabolism after weight training and cardio intervals...yeah it's important we know but you make it seem like a top secret miraculous new training tactic. All things being said though, they still have some great videos and an enormous fan base so you can't leave them out. And their video "Healthy Meal Time" spoofing the Epic Meal Time series is pretty damn funny!

Davey Wavey has been a YouTube personality for a long time and he has a huge fan base. He's always been into fitness but his fitness-specific channel is relatively new and on its way up. He now has over 40 videos on fitness, nutrition, and motivation and his channel was chosen as a contestant on YouTube's Next Up Trainer. He's got some great tips and workouts, and is clearly very intelligent, well-spoken, and in great shape. His affiliation with Scott Herman Fitness also ensures his continued channel growth. Check out his channel today!

Rob Riches is one of the world's most successful and well-known male fitness models. He's an icon and role model for a lot of people and his channel shows you how you too can look and feel your best. Great recipes, workouts, and physique tips from one of the best in the biz. He's been taking his channel up a notch this year.

Obviously Bob Harper is from the cultural phenomenon The Biggest Loser and this is his fitness channel started in 2010. His videos on everything from weight training, to aerobics, to nutrition, and recipes are all well done. But due to his level of mainstream success, his channel is probably run almost completely by another company and it just doesn't have that personal touch that most of these other channels have. Great channel overall but just a little too corporate for me (I guess it's my inner frugality).
18) Brad Scott Fitness

Fitness model Brad Scott was a newcomer last year to the YouTube fitness scene but this year he really came into his own. He doubled his videos to about 300 and at least quadrupled his viewership! He's got some great Six Pack Insanity workouts, home training, gym training, beach training, fitness modeling tips, and much more. All around great guy that is all about helping his audience and answering their questions.

YouTube's "Next Up Trainer" videos felt the wrath of the public when Strength Project was snubbed as one of the Sweet 16 to qualify for the contest. Hundreds of comments and video dislikes were doled out to good videos as a result, certainly uncalled for but also representative of the big following and rabid fan base Strength Project has. Incredible videos here on bodyweight strength training, gymnastics, and calisthenics make this a very entertaining and unique fitness channel. Hopefully if they do Next Up Trainer next year, it will be chosen and his entourage can avoid carpal tunnel and heart attacks.

Brandon Collingwood is a rare mix of fitness intelligence, comedy, and positive attitude that results in a YouTube channel unlike any other. Oh yeah, and the guy's ripped to shreds. He's in ridiculous shape and is still actually a cool guy! Some of his videos are hilarious, some ridiculous, and some you might just learn something! This California-based personal trainer has been in the fitness industry helping clients of all kinds for a decade. The world is getting to know him, he's got nearly 8k subscribers and closing in on 2 million views!

Simona, the Czech Fitness Girl, is taking a page out of Zuzana Light's book by combining Eastern European beauty and rock solid muscle. Simona is arguably in just as good of shape as Zuzana and pumps out plenty of great sexy fitness videos, many set to trance and techno music (not my cup of tea personally but a lot of people like that stuff). Her 3 Channels combine for about 10k subscribers and several million views! Not too shabby! And unlike Zuzana, she also does a great job interacting with her fans and helping to answer their questions on fitness and workouts!

These guys are absolutely amazing! The best bar training, calisthenics, bodyweight training, and acrobatics you'll find on YouTube are here, and these guys are more ripped than most bodybuilders and fitness models you'll see! Awesome channel, superbly unique, and a good choice for anyone whether you are looking for strength training, gymnastics, or urban climbing tricks. Who needs a $100 a month gym when you can get shredded at your neighborhood public park?

13) Zuzka Light

Zuzana Light not a BodyRocker anymore?!? I know that's kind of old news now, but at first I don't think we were all  100% sure she would succeed completely on her own starting from scratch. But within a month or two her new channel Zuzka Light was kicking booty again and the former adult film star was getting people back in shape with her sultry eastern European accent and love for Burpees. In about a year, she brought in over 120,000 subscribers and over 12 million views to her new channel, while BodyRock TV continued using her replacement Lisa-Marie. Whether you think Zuzana's appeal is partially aesthetic, you can't deny she has some intense and effective workouts and creates some great quality videos that get people back in shape. She proves that in America everybody gets a second chance (or a third chance) and that you can always carry over success in one area to another a different realm with hard work. That's an interesting but powerful version of The American Dream right there!

12)  Kara Leigh

OK enough with the legends, here is a great and promising newcomer to the YouTube Fitness circuit. Kara is a Registered Dietitian and Bikini Competitor and has some great videos for you including workouts, recipes, nutrition tips, competition posing/prep/routines, dieting, and much more for men and women alike. She caught the eye of this year's winners The Hodge Twins, Lui Marco, and more and with good reason. Her channel has grown incredibly fast so look for her channel to continue it's great progress in content and a strong following. Keep up the great work Kara!

Here is another lesser known but up-and-coming channel that really epitomizes this list. Jack Nauss, a natural teen bodybuilder, is only 17 years old and already has a ridiculously impressive physique, great training methods, and an incredible YouTube channel and business acumen. Despite starting a new channel and rebranding his videos this year (like myself), he's had incredibly fast growth and a large following on his over 160 videos! Follow his training vlogs and tips to learn how to get strong and cut at any age. Keep your eye on this guy!

10) Physique of Greatness

Ummmm this stuff is amazing. I'm pretty new actually to Physique of Greatness but this channel is awesome. Videos and workouts that pump you up and entertain the hell out of you as well. Might not be the best one for young children to watch (a few obscenities), but hey whatever works for them! They lift heavy enough weight I'm not gonna tell them to stop! Hardcore lifting and bodybuilding here with plenty of wise training and nutrition advice as well to top it off!

Lui Marco seems to be underrated as a YouTube fitness guru, but he has an incredible channel on natural bodybuilding and fitness with over 650 videos and millions of views between his 2 channels! He tells it like it is when it comes to training hard, dietary supplements, steroid dangers, tough dieting, and pretty much any other topic you can think of! He's got over 25k subscribers and millions of views, but he always takes the time to help his viewers that post comments on his videos and channel wall. He's also very passionate about helping other new YouTube fitness channels grow and improve. Check out his videos for some natural bodybuilding wisdom!

If you think Scooby is a cartoon dog, you have been missing out on 5 years of legendary fitness training. And I mean LEGEND, this guy is 50 years old and he's in ridiculous shape as a natural bodybuilder and cyclist. If this was an "All-Time" list I would rank Scooby even better based on his pioneering of free online fitness videos. You could also say he's the "original frugal fitness master" since most of his videos are geared towards helping people lose weight and build muscle with just a pair of dumbbells or whatever is around the house. Scooby added a large amount of videos this year and dominates the YouTube scene with 250k subscribers and 145 million views. While I think his video content had declined a bit this year compared to previous years (although his video production quality and equipment has improved), he still has a phenomenal channel and plenty offer the next generation of fitness enthusiasts.

7) Kodjo Workouts

Follow fitness pro Kodjo as he takes you through his nearly 300 toning, muscle building, and home workouts that will take your fitness level further than you thought possible. Great exercise demonstrations to really help you master the details of each movement to get a better overall workout. If you aren't subscribed to him yet, he's got a different video for you to watch every day of your new year for a new you!

6) Amanda Russell

Amanda Russell is a YouTube Fitness and Frugal Fashion legend! She is the winner of YouTube's "Next Up Trainer" competition and with good reason. This rags to riches success story has taken NYC, Beverly Hills, and the world by storm with her amazingly effective yet affordable workouts and style. She has trained some of the biggest celebrities in Hollywood and The Big Apple, she's interviewed and worked with top names in the fitness industry including just recently "Fitness Made Simple" founder and legend John Basedow! Amanda is a great example of frugal fitness and improving your own wealth and health with creativity, education, and perseverance! Subscribe to her NOW!

Want to look like an athlete? Then train like one! Jeff Cavaliere of AthleanX is a well-known strength and conditioning coach and physical therapist that teaches you how to work out for function as well as physique. In fact, he was the physical therapist for the New York Mets and has trained some of the biggest professional athletes in the world. You can also tell he enjoys a little bodybuilding so he mixes that into his workout videos. That way you can look ripped while you are dominating in your sport! He has had an enormous year of growth, now with a whopping 70k subscribers and over 15 million views from his 150 videos. He's even been featured on a dozen television networks as well with his professional athletic training experience and clientele. Oh yeah, and he was chosen by Youtube as part of their "Next Up Trainer" elite 16 contestants. In my opinion, he's a front-runner in that competition.

4) Brandon Carter

Well for those of you who don't know, Brandon Carter used to have one of the biggest fitness YouTube channels a year ago, but it was terminated "due to repeated counts of copyright infringement and violations" or something along those lines. Now I know from personal experience that slaps on the wrist from Google can be deserving, or they can be from things out of your control (haters, people with good intentions but dumb actions, etc). Anyways, he's had to start new channels which is always rough, but Brandon has some great fitness workouts, tips, motivation, physique, and he's even a musician as well! Check out his new and improved stuff and support a YouTube fitness legend as he rebuilds his empire!

3)  Strength Camp

This guy is a YouTube champion of muscle knowledge! His 100,000+ subscribers, nearly 20 million views, and 600+ videos are incredible testaments to his knowledge and experience in strongman, powerlifting, bodybuilding, and fitness. Make sure you get this guy in your channel subscription mix. Thank you Arash from Strength Project for the reminder!

2) Hodge Twins / Twin Muscle Workout

The Hodge Twins are YouTube beasts, legends, and have more free fitness videos than any other fitness channel. Although the science behind their videos and strategies is sometimes questioned (mostly be trolls), they offer excellent advice based on their experiences and successes. They are pretty intelligent, very nice, and often helpful of other new fitness channels trying to get their start. Good guys, good videos, and enormous success. If you aren't watching the Hodge Twins fitness videos, you are truly missing out! Don't worry guys, you'll be getting a much better ranking in December 2012 when I follow up on this list for 2012-2013 greats!

Zuzana Light is the new queen of YouTube Fitness! The former adult film star (oops, should I not have mentioned that?) has cemented her status as the most subscribed to fitness guru on YouTube at HALF A MILLION SUBSCRIBERS! Zuzana is obviously gorgeous, well-endowed (sorry but it's pretty obvious, even if it's most likely artificial enhancement), has a sexy accent, and kicks absolute ass when it comes to workouts. Her workout intensity and love for burpees are X-rated indeed. She is not just a pretty face / body / voice, her workouts are literally insane no matter how good your fitness level is, male or female. And with over 600 videos and a new 2nd channel, she covers plenty of nutrition and other fitness topics as well. She's also using her massive audience and good looks to expand into fitness and general fashion. Maybe she'll get so famous she'll make the transition to Action Movie Star and Governor like another muscular Eastern European before her. The only downside now seems to be the arrival of new hosts and demonstrators besides Zuzana. They are very good but hopefully that doesn't mean she's hanging up her workout clothes soon and leaving the channel like Jillian Michaels left The Biggest Loser. Don't leave Zuzana!

And just for good measure, another great picture of Zuzana / Zuzka / The Fitness Goddess:
