Sleep For Better Gains!


Anyone who knows me well is aware of my proclivity towards getting large amounts of sleep. This is not because I'm lazy...ok well not just because I'm lazy. Sleep is necessary for a variety of reasons when you are trying to stay healthy and make physique improvements. It is during your sleep when your muscles recover the most and the muscle is allowed to grow larger than before. Joints and other connective tissues are allowed to progress in the healing process so micro-tears are healed, inflammation subsides, and range of motion is improved or maintained. Obviously, sleep is crucial for energy levels and mental focus which will affect you at the gym. 

What many people don't know is that getting less than 6 hours of sleep a night will reduce a man's natural testosterone level which in turn lowers metabolism, muscle mass, and drive. Females will also have hormonal imbalances if subjected to constant sleep deprivation and a lowered metabolism is one of the major consequences. These are just some of the reasons you want to strive to get those 8 hours a night or take that cat nap in the afternoon.
