Interview With World Champion Boxer Jose Rivera

jose rivera world champion boxer interview

The People's Champion Jose Rivera!

Hey Frugal Fat Fighters! It is the Rocky Balboa of Cheapness here to talk to you about an amazing world-champion pro athlete, an amazing company with a business opportunity that might be right for you, and a great gym in Worcester, MA! Now that is a lot of fantastic frugal fitness, you might need to take a break from your one-armed pushups for this one, so let's break this down into ROUNDS. Ding ding! Let's have a clean fight!

Ouch! Glad I'm not getting hit by Jose & the only punches I take are to my ego!

ROUND 1: Jose Rivera, 3x World Boxing Champion

I got an incredible opportunity to meet and interview with former 3x World Champion Boxer Jose Rivera, who is now retired from the boxing ring but still very active in the boxing, fitness, and athletic community.

He is currently a highly sought after personal trainer, boxing coach, and leader of USANA Health Sciences Team Rivera (he is also the on their Athletic Advisory Council with other world-class athletes). And that's on top of his full time job, and I thought I worked a lot! This guy is a beast (my arms were feeling puny sitting next to him!), he has been through it all in athletics, and he is very smart and diligently does his research on all things training and nutrition. He leads USANA's Team Rivera which distributes the highest quality nutritional supplement products on the planet, and you can join his elite team! Make money while helping others get healthier? Sounds like a good deal to me! And of course while I was there, I had to show him a few things in the ring (ok I made that last part up haha).

Me pretending to be a champion in areas other than frugality!

ROUND 2: USANA Health Sciences
USANA Health Sciences strives to be the highest quality nutritional supplement company on the planet! Their creto and all of their products emphasize health at the cellular level, superior research, and the highest standards of quality to translate into improved health, performance, and quality of life for all those taking their products. The amoUnt of scientists and researchers in this company is staggering, and that translates into extremely powerful and proven products. Jose Rivera looked to these products and the company's nutritional expertise to help maximize his illustrious career, and now he's helping others benefit from the same opportunity. Jose met with all of the doctors, researchers, and even visited the world-class manufacturing facility to make sure that this was the best company and the best product line to team up with. They make premium and highly effective multivitamins, multiminerals, antioxidant formulas, heart healthy fat blends, muscle-repairing protein mixes, and much more (all safe for athletic competitions! no banned substances!) that you can see at Usana health sciences MLM.

ROUND 3: Camp Get Right Worcester, MA
Camp Get Right in Worcester, MA is one of my favorite types of gyms that is all about results, and none of the BS you find at most upscale hoity-toity gyms (not frugal, not cool). This is the kind of place where champions are made, and not the place where you sip on a smoothie while on your cell phone on an elliptical with resistance 1 during interviews. This gym has everything you could want for real results from boxing rings, to MMA rings, to functional training (monster truck tires, sledge hammers), speed bags, heavy bags, kettlebells, medicine balls, jump ropes, dumbbells, ropes and none of that Nautilus Equipment beta male equipment or unnecessary rows of fancy cardio equipment. While you don't have to be a badass to enjoy a great workout here, you will certainly be a badass by the time you leave and you will understand how to train harder and smarter with the most effective and necessary equipment. Men & Women of all ages, goals, and fitness levels welcome!

All of these strong women could kick my butt easily!

Join USANA Team Rivera Today!

And if you are in the Worcester, MA area...or even remotely close by, besides hitting up Camp Get Right, on a very personal note, I would highly recommend you look into hiring Jose as your personal trainer. Whether you are training for boxing, another sport, or just trying to get in better shape, this guy is an incredible resource you should utilize. I can't imagine how much I would have benefited, in athletics and in my fitness career, to work with a skilled trainer/coach when I was a teenager, instead of teaching myself and making so many mistakes along the way... much less a world champion! Make the investment.

Thanks Jose for your time, expertise, and not knocking me out!

Cricket Baazigar Tips For Betting

cricket betting tips cricket baazigar sports bets wagers win big

Wagering tips are also important in putting and gaining investments. Until it makes bets, all experienced gamblers largely depend on suggestions and forecasts.

And in the field of cricket gambling, there are numerous betting websites. They are bookmakers professionals with years of experience. They examine each match and make educated guesses about the consequences.

These scammers provide advice on gambling websites. Any gambling platform assembled a total with tipsters to support him in providing advice to all bookmakers.

Although some tippers charge a fee for your advice, many have it for free. This would benefit if you had been cautious since not one of the pieces of advice could be believed.

Be certain that you are reading tips from even a legitimate source and an active reporter. Baazigar is a group of well-known tippers. They give free predictions with all cricket games.

Real Cricket Betting Tips

Baazigar is a gambling platform where you can pick winners. Their emblem features a hawk. That's a well-known brand in the online gambling industry. They get a scammer team that forecasts the result of each cricket world cup. Here are some real tips by mittech

Gain Knowledge

Although some luck is required to win large at cricket bets, you will not make any meaningful money if they focus solely on it. Unless you'd like to improve bets, then you should have good expertise in the rules of cricket.

Before exchanging any play, you can also review match numbers and previous records for all sides. Analyzing previous data can provide valuable information regarding operated and inning average.

Don’t Bet More Than You Can Afford

Although many slot machines give large gambling prizes to newbies, you can risk burning through your investments on cricket gambling if you wouldn't understand when to quit.

To begin, you must bet even less than practicable before you have gained some gaming experience. When you want to go professional, you will take the requisite chances without becoming indebted or bankrupt.

Analyze Ranking, Rating, And Performance

Until taking a gamble on cricket, anybody looking to gain should carefully examine that league's ranking, scores, and results. Similar scores will allow you to evaluate what profitable it will be to gamble on that squad.

Check The Weather

As strange as that may seem, the environment will decide the success of a cricket match. While several competitions are delayed due to environmental concerns, a single drizzle or heavy sun may have a big impact on the pitch.

It'll also affect the ball's rotation – how it connects with the floor, twists, and rebounds. Bowlers can have a feature that distinguishes them in poor conditions, because once the power goes up, the edge shifts to the batsmen.

Study The Sports

Search for signs, ratings, and details that are unique to specific teams, coaches, circumstances, cities, and much more.

You'll still want up-to-date information on cricket bets for more wager wins. That necessitates investigation and due diligence.

Final Thoughts On Betting Big On Cricket

One last piece of basic advice on wagering and winning with cricket bets. You cannot gamble correctly when you are intoxicated. You can still make stupid decisions when you're sober, so don't add to the risk of losing money with drugs and alcohol. There is no need to make life more difficult for oneself when you are betting big on cricket matches with money on the line.

FRUGAL FEASTY: Epic Superbowl Buffalo Chicken Bites & Blue Cheese Dip

Contributed By Amanda Santucci, Author of The Skinny Spice
It's a mixed bag of emotions. Tom Brady and the Patriots won't be in this year's Superbowl, but you can at least eat these amazing appetizers!!

For those football parties you may or not be attending/throwing,  try making this HEALTHY Buffalo Chicken Wings and Blue Cheese Dip recipe  for Superbowl 2013.
Ingredients:
5 pieces of chicken breast
2 cups bread crumbs
1 tbsp cayenne pepper
1/2 tsp chili powder
1/2 tsp salt
5 tbsp hot sauce (I used Frank’s)
Instructions:
Cut the chicken breasts into bite sized nuggets, and set aside. Mix breadcrumbs, cayenne, chili, and salt in a larger bowl and coat chicken pieces in this mixture. Place chicken pieces on a cookie sheet and cook for 15-20 minutes or until fully cooked. I like to turn the chicken over halfway through, through the pieces are small enough to just let cook.
When chicken is done, toss with hot sauce in a large bowl. If you want it to be crispy, you can put the bites back into the oven on high broil for 2-3 minutes. Serve with dip (below).
Meanwhile make the Blue Cheese Dip: Typically, this dip is SO bad for you, alas I have created a super healthy version for your enjoyment.
Blue Cheese Dip:
1 cup cottage cheese
1 6oz cup of plain greek yogurt
3 tbsp blue cheese crumbles (then an additional 3-5 tbsp to use later)
2 tbsp white vinegar
1/2 tsp salt
Instructions:
Use a food processor to blend all ingredients aside from the additional blue cheese. Blend well. Place in a serving bowl and add the additional blue cheese.

The Lebron James 1 Hour Special Fiasco

THE DECISION: LeBron Brings The Heat of the Spotlight On Himself
Millions of people tuned in for a 5 second announcement that ESPN made an epic 1 hour event. I am of course referring to the widely-discussed and criticized Lebron James team signing. So Lebron goes to the Miami Heat and with him comes the hopes of many NBA Titles. His old owner is livid about his betrayal and the spectacle that surrounded it. This interview was ESPN's highest rated program which absolutely boggles my mind. I think this has got to be the best marketing gimmick since I heard of the "Icing" tradition secretly created to sell more Smirnoff Ice beverages. ESPN sold massive amounts of advertising space and I am very surprised Lebron wasn't wearing a Nike shirt/hat, drinking his own Vitamin Water flavor, and/or eating some Micky D's to capitalize. He instead wore a button up collared shirt, after all this event was extremely classy! Basketball is a fun sport to play and watch but the NBA is definately all about big egos and characters on the court. Lebron is one of the best players in the league but nobody in history has enjoyed the spotlight for so long for something as small as a trade. Sorry New York, sorry Cleveland, the king's new throne is now Miami with D-Wade and company. Professional sports continue to evolve into more of a WWE entertainment genre and their athletes into celebrities. I don't know if all of this is a good thing but it certainly makes for an interesting ride. All I know is that some marketing guy for the NBA just got promoted for the way this event succeeded.

Olympic Lifting Versus Powerlifting in Football Players

The article “Comparison of Olympic vs. Traditional Power Lifting Training Programs in Football Players” from the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research  is about comparing the different benefits of training for power with Olympic Lifts and training for strength with traditional Power Lifts for football players. This study illustrates their effects on different measurable physical tests commonly used such as 1RM Bench Press, 1RM Squat, Vertical Jump, 40 Yard Dash, T test, and body mass. The subjects participated in the same initial 5 week preparatory resistance training program and then were split up with half of the players doing a more explosive Olympic Lifting based resistance training program and the other half doing a more Power Lifting based resistance training program. Each group consisted of about 20 players split up evenly by positions and their test results prior to the study were compared to their test results after the final resistance training program was completed. Statistically the results showed that the group assigned to the Olympic Lifting resistance training program made significant gains in 1RM Back Squat, Vertical Jump, and especially in the 40 yard dash time while there were little significant differences found between other test numbers.
I think this article is very important because it demonstrates the quantitative effects of two vastly different types of training styles. Traditionally Power Lifting has been the training method for football players but only recently is Olympic Lifting being incorporated more and more into their resistance training programs. Since most sports occur with ballistic movements, it only makes sense that Olympic Lifts would be more sport specific and carryover more into any sport such as football.
I would use this study as a resource to justify training athletes in explosive sports such as football (or most other sports for that matter) with Olympic Lifts and other explosive movements that would mimic the sport. I definitely think that the type of training for football should be customized to a player’s position as best they can. Offensive and Defensive Lineman should have more Power Lifting incorporated into their resistance training programs based on their positions and body mass required for the position. Olympic Lifting absolutely helps lineman as well but not nearly as much as it would help a wide receiver or defensive end that requires speed, agility, and the ability to jump high. Olympic Lifts such as power cleans and snatches have similar mechanics to the 40 Yard Dash and Vertical Jump so it makes sense that this group improved significantly in these areas.
There were of course some variables that did confound or skew the results somewhat in my opinion. First of all, the sample size of athletes was rather small with 10 players in each group and 3 of them had to drop out due to non-compliance or injury. A larger sample size would give more accurate results especially if there were any data outliers. Secondly, this study used Division III football players very experienced with resistance training. This means two things. The players at the Division III level are very different from those at a high school, NCAA Division I, or professional level obviously so this study may not carry over to football players of all ages.

There was some overlap in training methods too as both groups performed similar Bench Press and Back Squat training and both groups had to include a speed and agility program concurrently with their resistance training program. This would seem to alter the results as the Olympic Lifting group would still be maintaining strength on the Bench Press and Back Squat and the Power Lifting group would still be maintaining speed and agility for the 40 Yard Dash and the T test. Also, the football players were very experienced with resistance training so their gains on certain exercises (especially bench press which they have probably been doing for 6 years at this point) are not going to be very significant no matter what program they are on.

I feel that it is easier to improve on Olympic Lifting gains because they haven’t focused on them as much over the years and technique improvement can lead to increased poundage. Increased poundage on Olympic lifts therefore results in improved numbers for tests that are similar to these lifts such as the Vertical Jump and 40 Yard Dash. I feel that similar but improved studies (bigger sample size, different football player populations, etc) should be performed to get more accurate and conclusive results on the differences in these resistance training methods. I personally would incorporate both types of Lifting in my athletes’ workouts but the proportion would depend on the sport, position and, areas needing improvement.

A Look At The Steroid Era of Professional Sports

Author’s Preface: This article was originally written in Fall 2007 and still rings true today. The pestilence of illegal performance-enhancing drug use in professional sports has only gotten worse in my opinion. Since the article was written, many more big names in sports have been accused or convicted of illegal drug use such Shawn Merriman, Manny Ramirez, David Ortiz, Alex Rodriguez, and many 2008 Olympic athletes. I am still (unfortunately) confident that there will be a massive scandal of Mitchell-Report proportions for the NFL at some point. The NFL is literally printing money these days but it’s setting itself up for a big fall with a lot of player drug issues.

The Barry Bonds home run controversy, the Mitchell Report, and the Congressional fiasco with Roger Clemens and his former personal trainer Brian McNamee have all been driving me crazy. It is absolutely ridiculous that it would catch anybody by surprise that Major League Baseball studs such as Bonds, Clemens, McGwire, Andy Petite, and Raphael Palmeiro had or have been artificially enhancing their game over the past decade or two. It is even more preposterous that people are surprised to hear from some testimonies that the Mitchell Report leaves out many hundreds of professional baseball players. Anabolic steroids and Growth Hormones are not new to sports, they have been utilized as performance enhancers in dozens of sports since the 1940’s by Russian, German, and United States athletes and coaches! That was a time when athletes didn’t even make any real money, just extrapolate that drug use to the world of professional sports today. In today’s world of cut-throat athletic competition and $100 million contracts, I would be more surprised to find non-steroid and growth hormone users in the minority. Some may call me a cynic but I am just a realist.

One of the things that irritates me is that individuals such as Bonds, Clemens, McGwire, and Palmeiro are singled out when in fact half the league is sure to be artificially enhanced. It is true they have received more money, praise, and fame from their baseball performance than most other players so they should probably be receiving a proportional amount of scrutiny for their cheating. On the other hand though, these players have been pitching and batting against a juiced up league for probably their entire careers. When Barry Bonds broke Hank Aaron’s home run record, he probably hit a large percentage of them against pitchers on steroids and growth hormones. When Roger Clemens won multiple Cy Young awards, he was facing a large percentage of batters on steroids, growth hormones, and even amphetamines to increase focus and reaction time. People should have listened more openly to Jose Canseco’s book but most wanted to believe that he was just in the immoral minority and that he was just a bitter self-promoter trying to tarnish the legacies of others. Too bad he was dead on.

Major League Baseball will never truly eradicate illegal artificial enhancement in the sport because every time a drug testing procedure comes out, there will be another untraceable drug, masking agent, or loophole to circumvent that procedure. People are motivated by money so there will always be new drugs invented that can be sold to individuals looking for an edge on the competition or simply a way to keep up against others artificially enhancing their game. With millions in contracts and endorsements on the line, some people will do whatever it takes.

Steroids have been and continue to be a massive problem in any sport or pseudo-sport including track and field, powerlifting, Olympic lifting, Strong Man, bodybuilding, and even professional wrestling. I have been saying for years that this is not only a big problem in baseball but probably an even bigger problem in the football. Why would players not utilize these illegal drugs in a full-contact sport where size, strength, and power, and speed reign surpreme when they are used in baseball? I am just waiting for the day when an “NFL Mitchell Report” comes out and exposes the cancer that is steroids and growth hormones in the game of football. You think Shawne Merriman and David Boston were the only guys in football to juice? Oh please, I’m sure the NFL’s “rigorous drug testing policy” currently in place is a joke that a rich, intelligent player can easily get round with access to the newest drugs. Something is suspicious when a 300 pounder is running a 4.6 in the 40 yard dash.

Unfortunately, the fall-out of all this cheating is pretty significant. Natural athletes will continue to feel the pressure to illegally enhance their game so they can keep up with the competition and therefore keep their jobs. Natural athletes will also face unwarranted suspicion instead of praise any time they make major improvements to their strength, physique, or game performance. Athletes using steroids will end up suffering greatly in the form of deteriorating joints, ligaments, heart and liver health, psychological disorders, and from related drug addictions. Professional sports are already brutal enough on the body without these added risks that can even include death in rare cases. This artificially inflated competition also trickles down to college and high school athletes putting pressure on them as well. Unfortunately, the public will continue to shell out cash to see bigger, faster, and stronger athletes until things come to a boil and players are temporarily reprimanded and scrutinized. Then they will simply go back to using the latest untraceable drug in attempts to pursue greatness or simply just to provide for their family. That’s the way it is and that’s the way it’s going to be for a long time.
