Working Out Can Lead To Acne For Some

A common site on arms, back, & shoulders for some workout gurus
I know this isn't the most pleasant topic for some but it is one that is worth addressing. Acne is very common in adolescents and can continue into the mid twenties for some. You can get it on your face, back, and shoulders primarily and it isn't fun. I had terrible acne for 3 years and it was very frustrating and annoying. It is usually caused from dirt and oils on skin that block pores and cause irritation. It can also be significantly affected by hormonal levels such as increases in testosterone. An extreme example is the severe acne that a lot of bodybuilders have that take synthetic testosterone such as anabolic steroids. Their acne, also known as backne, is directly related to big changes in hormones.

Luckily, most of us don't abuse those illegal drugs but many men seek to increase their testosterone naturally. Through weightlifting, increasing nutrients, and healthy living men like myself raise their testosterone naturally to a certain point. Unfortunately, that increase in testosterone, although small, can create some acne and other skin irritation. The good news is that it is not very significant and it can be minimized or prevented by taking a lot of showers and using the proper face and bodywash. Luckily, this minor acne is probably the only problem I've ever seen related to natural increases in male testosterone levels. And on that note, keep lifting heavy!

Just Don't Do Steroids, or you'll probably get some awful acne that may never go fully go away!
