Exercise Equipment Needed For P90x Workouts


P90x isn't exactly a new workout program but it is still widely utilized and can get some excellent results. It allows someone to do a constantly progressing workout at home, on the go, or even exercising outdoors (like pictured above) with minimal equipment. The program isn't exactly the most frugal one (unless compared to a personal trainer or high end gym membership) so you might be hesitant to invest in it and realize you'll still need some additional home exercise equipment.

So what is the required P90X workout equipment? If you like so many others have been thinking about purchasing the power 90 extreme workout program then this article will give you a quick review of equipment you will need for the 12 video workouts. Bear in mind, there is no magic behind the P90X workout routine. Any workout program used consistently with the proper nutritional plan will help you in gaining muscle size and in getting ripped! However, let's get back to what equipment you'll need to do the P90X workout routine. 

Here's a little background information the power 90 extreme workout program Tony Horton, the creator of the Beach Body P90X workout program has put together 12 different workouts that can be easily performed in your home with only a few pieces of equipment. No need for an expensive Bowflex, Total Gym, or Bio Force TNT that costs thousands of dollars. The P90X can help you achieve your fitness or bodybuilding goals. These 12 videos take you through a 12-week or 90 day program to get a lean and ripped body. Unbelievably, it does work! All you need to get a great workout is some P90X workout equipment. 

Here Is What You Will Need: 

* A Set of Good Quality Resistance Bands 
* Chin up Bar 
* Push up Stands or a Perfect Push-Up 
* TRX or Human Trainer Suspension Straps

In place of the resistance bands, you can purchase a set of dumbbells. Unfortunately, you will have to buy multiple sets unless you want to be changing plates all the time. One of the better adjustable dumbbells is the Bowflex Select Tech Dumbbells, but they are not cheap! The Bowflex SelectTech 552 Dumbbells for example offers resistance from 5 pounds to 52.5 pounds, and they will run you about $400. On the other hand, a set of Bodylastics resistance bands offer 5 pounds to 249 pounds of resistance. For less than $100 and it has a lifetime defects warranty. 

I personally prefer resistance bands, not only because of the lower price, but because they are handy, flexible and more versatile than the set of dumbbells. If you are looking for a good set of resistance bands. I would recommend either the Bodylastics Home Gym or The Golds Gym Resistance Bands. Of the two, the Bodylastics offers more options. In regards to a chin up bar. There are some options here, if you are looking for low-cost. You can use the resistance bands to do pull downs, instead of doing chin-ups or pull-ups. On the other hand, you can purchase a simple doorway chin up bar for around $20, and it will work just as well as the $50 P90X chin-ups bar. 

When it comes to push-ups, do you really need push up stands or a perfect push-up? The answer is both yes and no. Both of these items will reduce the strain on your wrists and allow you to go deeper in your push-ups on the other hand, you can do push-ups between two chairs and get the same results. Whatever you decide push up stands or perfect push-up, they are both inexpensive at around $30 for either set. That is pretty much the "required" P90X workout equipment, you can also consider a floor mat for doing some of the ab exercises, but it is not essential.

What you'll find is that the equipment is less important than your consistency and dedication to these workout programs. If you stick with any decent exercise plan you're going to get real results!
