Frugal Healthy Snack: Homemade Popcorn

Manu and I have a tiny food obsession with popcorn. Mondays and Wednesdays in the winter are our "hangout at home" nights where we make dinner and cozy up on the couch to watch bad TV and eat popcorn, or "poppy," as Manu calls it. We just can't get enough and when we realize we've run out, well, that's a sad, sad day.

Our kitchen is so tiny and we don't have room for a microwave, so we do oil-popped kernels in a pan. Which is good. But this method right here is a game changer. No clean-up required and you save about 25 calories per cup! Yeah, I think we'll be moving aside some appliances for a microwave pronto!

Pour 1/2 cup popcorn kernels into a brown paper bag. Fold the top over two times so the kernels don't escape. Microwave on high for 2-3 minutes or until popping slows down. Careful opening the bag! Add salt and seasonings of your choice.
Have fun experimenting with this - I know I'm going to try all sorts of seasonings like cayenne + cumin or cinnamon + brown sugar or red pepper flakes + grated cheese! How do you make your popcorn?
