What To Expect Before And After A Breast Augmentation

what to expect before and after breast augmentation surgery recovery

Procedure

Deciding to get a breast augmentation procedure may be the first step towards attaining body confidence. Once you have found the right plastic surgeon, you must start preparing for the procedure. Your Denver breast augmentation surgeon will give you the advice you need. If you have any questions, they should be able to answer them. Usually, the surgery has three main phases: consultation, operation, and recovery. You must prepare for each one of them.

The Consultation Period

During the consultation period, you get the chance to speak with your surgeon about your concerns. Ask them your questions about the procedure and what you should expect. Your surgeon can help you determine if breast augmentation is a good choice. They may use visualization tools to help you decide the type and size of your implant.

The consultation period gives your doctor a chance to discuss the possible risks of the procedures with you. You may also discuss the payment options.

On The Day Of The Procedure

Do not eat or drink anything eight hours before your surgery as it could increase the risk of regurgitation. Get to the clinic before the scheduled time and wear loose-fitting clothes. Your clothes should be easy to button or zip. Ensure that you have someone to drive you back home as you can’t do it after the procedure.

During The Procedure

Breast augmentation is a simple procedure that may take up to two hours. It is an outpatient procedure and your surgeon administers general anesthesia. They make small cuts under your arms and breasts, and around your nipples. They will use antimicrobial soap to clean your chest and reduce the risk of infection. After inserting the implants, they use a small incision to close it up.

The Recovery Process

The recovery period after breast augmentation is short. Unlike in the past where patients had to wait for a long time before getting back to work, you can now resume your daily activities in a few weeks.

In the first 48 hours, try sleeping upright to promote a speedy recovery. Do not indulge in any strenuous activities for a minimum of three weeks after the procedure. Surgeons suggest that you avoid raising your hands over your head to minimize swelling. You can resume your regular activity after eight weeks.

Consider getting help with housework during the recovery period. You should have someone to drive you to and from the hospital in case you need medical help.

Use ice packs to relieve pain and discomfort, and drink lots of water. Stay away from tight-fitting clothes as they could increase discomfort.

In three months, you need to see your doctor again. They will take photos of your augmented breasts to determine the success of the procedure. This marks the end of your breast augmentation journey and you will now have the right breast size and bra fit.

Set Realist Expectations For Breast Augmentation Procedures

Setting realistic expectations for your surgery helps you focus on your goal and minimizes disappointment. If you have questions about what to expect during the procedure, seek the opinion of your surgeon before getting your breast augmentation surgery.

Chest Pains And When To Make A Trip To The ER

chest pains when to go to er heart attack signs emergency room

You are feeling pain in your heart and your chest feels tight; you can bet that you are experiencing a heart attack and need to rush to the ER. You are not alone. Close to seven million Americans visit the emergency room every year due to chest pain for fear that this is a precursor to a heart attack or they are already having one. Bhupinder Singh MD opines that chest pain is a significant sign of a heart attack, though it may not mean that you are indeed having one.

But how serious should the pain be to necessitate a trip to the ER?

The Link Between Chest Pain And Heart Attack

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates, each year, close to 790,000 Americans suffer a heart attack with close to half of all the cardiac deaths happening away from a hospital setting. When your heart is not getting enough oxygenated blood, you will experience chest pains, a precursor to a heart attack. The damage to your heart extends with the amount of time taken before medical help is sought. Essentially, your chances of surviving a heart attack increase subject to how soon you seek emergency care.

If you experience pain in the upper part of your body including numbness, discomfort and pinching in the neck, jaw, upper stomach and back, you should visit your doctor at Heart and Vascular Care. If you are experiencing chest pains accompanied by the following signs of heart attack, this is a medical emergency:

· Nausea or vomiting
· Shortness of breath
· Cold sweats
· Lightheadedness or dizziness
· Unusual fatigue

Remember that not everyone will experience chest pains before having a heart attack. Seek emergency care whenever more than one of the above symptoms present. Your chances of suffering a heart attack increase exponentially due to high blood pressure, high cholesterol, if you have previously had a heart attack, or you are a smoker.

Other Causes Of Chest Pain

You can also suffer from chest pains due to the following conditions which may not be linked to a heart attack:

· Gallstones
· Heartburn
· Anxiety or panic attack
· Asthma
· Bronchitis
· Injured ribs
· Pancreatitis
· Shingles

When Should I Go To The ER?

Whenever you feel pain in the chest, this should be probed further by a medical professional. It is a question of when and not if you should head to the emergency room. If you have a family history of heart attack, are experiencing signs of a heart attack, or have other medical conditions, making an emergency visit to the ER should be a priority.

But how do you establish if your chest pain is an emergency? If the pain is temporary, has been experienced before or reduces when you change positions, there is no cause of alarm for heart problems. Your doctor at Heart and Vascular Care recommends calling an ambulance if you suspect that your problem is severe. Heart attacks present in various forms among patients, and you should not take chances.

The chest cavity encloses a variety of vital organs and any pain in this area should not be taken lightly. Consult your cardiologist for evaluation whenever you experience chest pains that could mean a heart attack or stroke requiring an emergency room visit.

How To Detect Gynecomastia

how to detect gynecomastia man boobs male breast tissue

Gynecomastia

Not to be confused with a breast enlargement due to buildup of fat, gynecomastia is a condition in which the patient develops oversized or an enlarged gland or tissue in their breast, due to a hormonal imbalance. While harmless, the condition can be quite embarrassing, uncomfortable or even scary. Many times it goes away on its own but if it doesn't, one can visit a medical professional for further assessment and treatment because the disorder is oftentimes a symptom of an underlying serious condition. A West Palm Beach plastic surgeon can help you get rid of the disorder if it's not responding to treatment or provide a permanent solution. Take time to understand the risk factors that cause gynecomastia, and ask as many questions when you visit your doctor.

Recognizing Symptoms

Assess your body by feeling your breasts for soft lumps. With gynecomastia, the breast tissue develops in one or both breasts. The enlarged tissue may be located directly beneath the nipple, thus it can be felt with your fingertips. If you have the condition, you'll experience a soft, rubbery lump in the breast. If you feel any lump in your breast, make an immediate appointment with your doctor. A hard lump could indicate the presence of a tumor. The lump can occur in either or both breasts and it could be of different sizes.

As you assess the lump, note the tenderness, and soreness, especially when you press the breast. Gynecomastia feels sore when you touch the lump. If you feel a lot of pain, make an immediate appointment with the doctor. It's quite possible that being obese or overweight can contribute to gynecomastia.

Medical Diagnosis

Gynecomastia is not dangerous by itself. However, it could be an indication of something more serious. See a doctor right away if you experience pain and swelling in the breast, discharge from one or both nipples, and a hard lump in your breast. Pain could be a symptom of a cyst or an infection. A discharge could indicate breast cancer, an infection in the breast tissue / chest muscle, or a disorder in the endocrine system. A hard lump could also indicate breast cancer.

On visiting the doctor, discuss your health history with as much openness as you can. It will be much easier for your doctor to understand the condition if they get thorough information about your medical history and overall health. Tell the doctor about any other symptoms you may have, any related health problems in your family, or any medical problems you've had in the past. You can also enlighten them on the kinds of medication you're using.

Assessing Risks

Some people have a higher risk of developing gynecomastia than others. Look at your history, overall health or age. You are most likely to develop gynecomastia if you're undergoing puberty or are between the ages of fifty and seventy. There is also the risk of infant gynecomastia but it usually goes away on its own. If you have any condition that affects the body's production of testosterone, you could be at risk of developing gynecomastia. You're also at risk if you have a liver condition, hyperactive thyroid gland, or if you have certain types of tumors especially in the testes, adrenal gland, and pituitary gland.

In addition to that, take note of the kinds of medication you're taking, as certain types of prescription drugs can cause the disorder. If you take certain hormones or steroids, it can increase estrogen production leading to gyno, AKA man boobs. Consult your doctor to assess your risks of moobs.

Got a Question for The Frugal Fitness Guru? Contact Me!

Your Question: How To Even Out Uneven Pec Muscles? My Pecs Are Different Sizes And Shapes And I Am Embarrassed.

Hey Frugal Fitness I have a question about my chest muscles size. I have been working out for about 6 months now and I have got bigger and more toned and I use a lot of your workouts. My chest is my best part of my body but my left pec is a different shape to my right. By this I mean my left pectoralis major is all round whereas my right pec is is round and then the bottom of it is flat and seems more toned then my left.

At first it wasn't that bad but now my chest muscle uneven look is so noticeable. I know you are a top personal trainer at the gym that has dealt with uneven pecs, and you were the first person I thought about asking as you know so much. What should I do to even out my uneven chest muscles and pump up my pecs?

Frugal Fitness Answer: How To Even Out An Uneven Chest

I have actually gotten the question of how to even out uneven pec muscles a few times from different people over the years, and even dealt with a similar issue in my first few years of weight training. Uneven pecs can be a problem in bodybuilding, athletic training, and even in their romantic relationships. Having uneven chest muscles a very common situation for a lot of people so don't feel embarrassed and it can be improved with a few workout modifications.

While uneven pectoralis major muscles obviously doesn't look ideal, more importantly disproportionate chest musculature can also predispose you to poor exercise technique and/or injury (such as tendinitis, bursitis, or rotator cuff tear. These are all things you want to avoid I assure you) so it is something that you want to start correcting as soon as possible. From my experience, I would recommend implementing three things to help rectify the situation and even out those uneven pec chest muscles in 2026:

3 Tips To Even Out Your Chest Muscles

1)  First off, you need to take a good hard look at your pectoral exercise technique. Your situation is very common for those that are much stronger on one side and tend to lift or position themselves on fitness equipment crookedly on the bench or mat, which will put more stress on one side of the body. If you do that for every set, every workout, every week, etc it will add up to one side of your body being stronger and more developed than the other.

You need to check your form in the mirror or with a spotter to make sure that your barbell bench press is not uneven, that your pushups aren't leaning to one side, and that your positions during mat exercises (such as donkey kicks, quadripeds, and planks) aren't crooked.

Also take into consideration that straining to lift heavy weight or lifting in a fatigued state often results in poor form including putting more weight on one side of your body. Try to avoid maxing out or doing too many chest exercises in a fatigued state unless you can use excellent form. Also, take note of your posture when you are seated and standing, and make sure you are not slouching to one side or leaning too much onto one side, etc. Do some chest and shoulder stretches (shoulder abductions) and some scapula retractions (pull your shoulder blades together and hold) to help improve this.

2)  Secondly, you may want to switch for the most part to dumbbell and cable exercises instead of barbell exercises, tricep dips, and pushups. When you use barbells, machines, or bodyweight exercises it is much easier to overcompensate with your stronger pectoralis and make the strength disparity even larger. You can distribute the weight on a bar or machine to one side more than the other very easily, even if it only appears to be a subtle difference. When you do pushups and dips, especially in a fatigued state, it is very common to lean more on your stronger side.

It is much easier to see your right and left side strength difference by doing dumbbell presses, dumbbell flies, cable chest presses, cable flies, etc. Because each side is independent, you will see right away when one side has reached failure and can no longer continue the exercise. When your weaker side starts failing, end the set without continuing with the stronger side. If you can't lift anymore on 1 side of your chest and keep lifting on your stronger side, you will just be making things worse so never continue the set. I personally think you get a lot more out of dumbbell and cable exercises than barbell bench press, pushups, and dips, especially in terms of pectoral muscle activation.

3)  Lastly, you can do some extra chest exercises on the lagging pec side at the end of your regular workout. This will help your pecs get evened out faster. I wouldn't recommend doing a huge amount extra, but an extra 1-2 sets of chest press machine or single arm dumbbell chest press should help to make a difference. You could even do a set of single arm chest flies on that 1 smaller side, holding a dumbbell in a relaxed position on the non-lifting side just to keep you balanced on the bench. Since it is the end of your chest workout, you shouldn't be doing very heavy weight for this little extra on your weaker side and make sure form is good. This is just a temporary pectoralis major training strategy and shouldn't be needed after a couple months tops while your weaker or smaller chest side catches up. It is also important for joint pain reduction and less chest muscle tightness.

Chiseled Chest And Pumped Pecs

Follow these three pec performance tips and you will be well on your way to evening out and improving your chest's physique, posture, and lifting performance. It may take several months for major improvements in your chest muscles to take effect, but it can be done and you will be glad you took care of the pec problem. Time to tone it up and even out those uneven pecs! Evened out pectoralis muscles are key to a perfect physique.

Tone Up Your Chest Muscles - Pump Up Pecs

tone up your chest lean pecs

Firm Up Your Chest with Pec Flies, Diet, Cardio, & More!

Frugal Fitness Question:

During my last couple months of working out I'm noticing gains and toning / definition in all areas except my chest area, i'm getting gainz on the bench but as far as looks go i'm worried i may have too much estrogen conversion or a slight case of gyno going on, wondering if you had any tips to tone that area up, and/or tighten it down, i know diet and exercise is key, however i wanted to know foods to look out for or a targeting workout you might know of especially for that... thanks frugal fitness man I look forward to hearing from you.

Frugal Fitness Answer

I hear ya loud and clear man, I have always genetically had a large and very strong chest no matter what type of training I've done. I can do bench press with barbie weights or just high repetition sets of pushups and I'll have a big powerful chest anyways. This can be a good thing if you are into powerlifting or bodybuilding, not quite as good if you want a flatter, more toned and even chest. If you put on bodyfat, as I've done on and off over the past couple of years, your ripped chest will end up looking more like moobs than pecs. Unless you are on the Jersey Shore trying to pick up Snookies, or at a Creatine convention, not many people want to see that stuff.

Chest Fail

Unless you have hormonal imbalances, have taken steroids or pro-hormones in the past, or some other sort of medication or medical conditions, you are probably not suffering from gynecomastia, aka "gyno" aka man titties aka man boobs (moobies), there are plenty of names for them. It's a good thing I've never used any roids or I'd have a rack as big as Brooklyn Decker's and muscles like a horse! Chances are, you just have some extra bodyfat combined with muscle mass and you need to lose that bodyfat asap.

Piercing them doesn't make them look any better
Chest workout exercises are important to help tone up the area (keep the skin tight by causing muscle to protrude) but the man thing is to boost metabolism and burn fat to get rid of that fatty tissue. For this I would recommend speeding up your workouts, reducing rest between sets, and keeping the heart rate up. This will increase fat burning and turn your weight training workouts into more circuit training / cardio. You can also add in some cardio intervals of 1-3 minutes in between your weight training workouts to do that as well.

Sure They Look Great on Brooklyn Decker, Just Not On You!
As for changing your chest workout to promote more toning and definition to fight gynecomastia, I would do this:

-Train your shoulders (deltoids) first with heavy weights
-Do lighter weights and higher reps (15-20) for chest exercises
-Do more dumbbell presses and less barbell presses
-Do more incline chest presses and flies and less flat or decline (to potentially stimulate more muscle fibers in the upper chest)
-Do plenty of high rep sets of pushups
-Add in boxing with a partner, heavy bag, dummy, or with resistance bands
-Add in elliptical with arms and real push and pull the arm attachments for repetitive low resistance chest contractions

And as you mentioned, cardio and diet are crucial and can't be overlooked.
On that note, I'm gonna go do some cardio haha.
