Nutrition Facts And Benefits Of Green Tea To Know

nutrition facts green tea health benefits teas ecgc

People usually use tea due to a number of reasons. Some drink it as a refreshment beverage and others use it as it is some kind of routine in their lives. In both cases, though, the majority of people usually prefer black tea to green tea.

The green tea, nonetheless, has stunning nutrition facts and numerous health benefits than its counterpart. Hence, our reason for having it as our main point of discussion today.

Green Tea Nutrition Facts

A significant portion of Asia, particularly China, India and Japan, have it as a common beverage in their everyday lives. The Chinese, nonetheless, were the earliest users before spreading it to the rest of the world.

While not a lot of people realize it, both black and green coffee comes from the same plant, Camellia Sinensis. The difference between them comes during the preparation process, in which the leaves are steamed to prevent fermentation.

Following are some of the key nutrition facts of green tea that you should know:

1. How Many Calories Are In Green Tea

Well, when we speak of the calories in green tea, there’s no fixed content level. The beverage is either low-calorie or calorie-free as it depends with the other ingredients added to improve the essence and taste.

With the usual “bagged Green tea” that has a net weight of around 2 g, for instance, there are 0 calories since it contains only the tea leaves. Nonetheless, a bottled Snapple Green Tea (let’s say 17.5-0z) can have up to 130.75 calories due to the contained sweeteners.

2. Is Green Tea Acidic?

The acidic nature of green tea usually depends on the kind you are using and how you are using it. For a freshly brewed green tea that has no additional ingredients, for example, the PH value is 7 (neutral). Hence, very useful when you are in an alkaline diet as it will help in neutralizing the acidic levels in your body.

Also, the alkalinity of green tea can help improve your digestion by making it smoother and healthier. Thus, very helpful after meals.

3. Is Green Tea Caffeinated?

Well, in most cases people consider green tea as naturally caffeine-free. In the real sense, though, the tea does have caffeine but in a relatively low amount (25-50 milligrams per 8-ounce cup). It’s hard to state the exact amount contained as it predominantly depends on factors, including the variety of tree plants and the growing condition. The caffeine in the best green tea is about ¼ the amount contained in coffee and ½ the amount in black tea. On top of the low caffeine levels, green tea has amino acid L-theanine that assist in counteracting the side effects of caffeine.

4. Should I Have Green Tea Before Bed?

This fact is a bit complicated to say yes or no due to the presence of caffeine and amino acid theanine. With the latter, the compound helps boost relaxation and restful sleep. The caffeine, on the other hand, is great in increasing alertness and keeping someone awake.

To minimize the contradiction and ensure an optimal balance of the two, it is great you use your green tea about 2 hours before bed. After all, at this time your metabolism is at the lowest.

Daily Supplement Reviews – What To Know

daily dietary supplement reviews nutritional vitamins minerals rating omega 3

Nowadays, people are very concerned about their health. Since food is becoming mass-produced, no one really knows what’s in it. Not only that, but the rise of GMOs has made it even harder to know which food is organic and which one is not. This makes us question our diets. Even if we are eating healthy, how good is it for us? Do we need to take some more supplements on a daily basis?

Most people think that taking a multivitamin will solve all of their problems. They wake up, drink a glass of water and a multivitamin. However, even in today’s high-tech world, you can get most of your nutrients just from food. You should be only adding vitamins and minerals that you lack. We created a list of the widely used and mostly needed supplements. Click here to read more.

Omega 3

This is widely regarded as the best supplement that you can ever take, period. A vast majority of us look down on seafood. However, most nations that live near water and incorporate seafood in their diet live the longest. They also have a minimal chance to succumb to illnesses such as heart disease. And they also have abnormally good immune systems.

All of this is thanks to the power of omega-three fatty acids. The benefits are widespread, and they include reducing inflammation and lowering the chances of heart disease, cancer, and arthritis. Not only that, but omega 3 is also beneficial for the brain. It improves cognitive function and overall health.

When you buy this supplement, be careful about the source. Some products may contain mercury because it’s extracted from fish. Carefully read the labels and make sure that the supplement you take has zero mercury contamination. Take one soft gel each morning with your breakfast or any other meal. This will keep you going and ensure you are in peak form.

Probiotics

Medicine, as we know, it is now turning to our inside world. We all have an ecosystem of bacteria that lives in our bellies. Many of us have a negative opinion of bacteria, and we think of them as disease carriers. However, almost 90 percent of bacteria are beneficial to us. In our gut, we have about two kilograms of them, and more than a thousand species.

This small ecosystem is responsible for preventing many diseases. And we also know that most of our immune system is located in that area. For that reason, we need to pay close attention to the balance of our bacteria. If the environment is thrown off, then many different things can happen. Autoimmune problems, diarrhea, depression, and a leaky gut are the most common ones.

If you take a supplement to benefit this small world of bacteria, then you will be generally happier. That is because most of our serotonin is located in that area too. You will relieve a lot of your gastrointestinal discomfort, and you’ll have a typical bowel pattern.

The best thing to take is a probiotic that will cover all types of bacteria. Those are called broad-spectrum. You should read the back label and check if it has been proven to boost gut health and immunity. If your GI tract is damaged in any way, try to take 100 billion units per day. If everything is okay, and you just want a daily dose, then 30 billion units would be excellent.

Vitamin D

Most of us know about vitamin D. We get it from the sun, and it is perfect for our skin. But how many of us have enough? The truth is, 80 percent of people have less of this vitamin than the lowest recommended level. Our lives are mostly focused on sitting in chairs and offices. We don’t get exposed to sunlight that much.

Even when we get exposed to the sun, we tend to look for shade. And since UV waves can cause cancer and are harmful, there’s almost no way to get it naturally. That is why you should invest in a high-quality supplement. More than 50 000 processes in our bodies depend on this vitamin alone. It also has a significant role in heart health, bone strength, and our immune system.

It can be a significant factor when it comes to developing autoimmune diseases. Now, overdoing it with this supplement can be harmful to your health. If you take one, opt for a 5000 IU one. After two weeks, go and take a blood test to see how your levels are. If you need to take a dose higher than that, you should consult with your physician for ones that contain 10,000 IUs.

Magnesium

Magnesium can also be called the superhero of all supplements. Almost every biological process in our bodies needs a dose of it. It provides energy for the primary and fundamental processes. This can be the processing and transporting of different enzymes. Or, it can also be the activation of cell pumps to help necessary chemicals go in and out of our cells.

In any case, it helps even to our lowest levels. It also helps with stress regulation and has a nourishing effect on our nervous system. Most people that have anxiety or even depression are sure to be lacking in this mineral. It’s the cheapest of all supplements, and it is also present in many nuts, grains, and leafy veggies.

What To Avoid?

Most people usually take Vitamin E and Vitamin A. There is a myth that says it helps to see in the dark, and that’s why people overload on it. It also supposedly helps with immune defense. The truth is, this particular vitamin is present in many foods. But we have it in cereal, eggs, meat, fruits, and vegetables. There is no need to take a supplement since most of us already intake it from our regular diets.

Final Thoughts On Dietary Supplement Reviews

You can try adding a few of these dietary supplements to your diet and see how your body responds. Being in better health will also make you happier and can even help you financially, health is wealth after all!

9 Beverages To Keep You Healthy This Winter Season

nutritious beverages keep you healthy winter season

For most people, the onset of the winter season signifies the beginning of a period characterized by regular consumption of hot healthy beverages. The season is dedicated to mugs of hot chocolate, eggnog, mules, cocktails, and many more. While some of these beverages are classified as healthy drinks, others aren’t too healthy! Remember that cold temperatures can impact your health in different ways. Rather than consume processed drinks, consider the following drinks during the looming season.

The Best Winter Drinks

1. Hot Water, Lemon, And Ginger

This list wouldn’t be complete if it didn’t start by mentioning the most iconic winter beverage of all time. As you already know, hot lemon water is something you should consider taking each morning, regardless of whether it’s cold or warm outside.

Lemon water contains essential immune-boosting qualities that help to enhance your well-being. Adding ginger to the water makes the water taste better while also making it healthier. Add a few drops of honey if you are suffering from a sore throat.

2. Buttered Coffee

Coffee doesn’t have to be a boring winter drink. Why not spice up your morning cup by adding a healthy twist to it? When buttered, the beverage helps you eliminate the caffeine jitters while providing you with an energy boost to last you the whole day. Furthermore, a single cup of this brew will also boost your daily intake of beneficial fats. Your blender will emulsify the coconut oil or MCT oil and the butter to provide the brew with an exciting creamy latte effect.

3. Herbal Tea

Winter is the perfect time to switch out your everyday tea and replace it with loose leaf tea. As is the case with any other teas, you can easily prepare it at home and continue to keep warm for the rest of the winter season.

The best thing about herbal teas is that they don’t lead to an increase in caffeine intake. Additionally, you have many options to consider, with some of the most common in the online tea and coffee shop being tulsi tea, green tea, and blue tea.

4. Hot Almond Milk

Drinking a cup of hot almond milk is another excellent way to keep the body warm during the cold season. Regularly sipping your almond milk will ensure you don’t freeze as you go about your daily activities.

Almond milk is rich in essential nutrients such as essential fatty acids, calcium, and protein, all of which are needed by the body to remain healthy. The beverage will boost your strength during winter and improve your heart health and bone health.

5. Chai Tea

Although the variety of chai tea available in most shops isn’t healthy, this recipe, using chai tea bags is good for you. Many chai varieties tend to have loads of full- fat milk and way too much sugar in them.

The ideal chai recipe has eight servings. This means that each cup will only have a single teaspoon of sugar. Moreover, it’s beneficial for your health as it’s brewed using a wide array of nutrient-packed spices and herbs.

6. Fresh Mint Tea

Fresh mint tea is considered a wonderful digestive that can do wonders when you are suffering from nausea or an upset stomach. Its health benefits aside, the tea has a delicious taste that will make you want to take more sips as the day progresses.

It doesn’t take much for you to make a cup of your own. All you need is a few fresh mint leaves, a teapot, and a metal tea ball. Add freshly boiled water to the leaves and leave them to steep for a few minutes for them to taste.

7. Golden Milk

The golden-colored milk is both creamy and soothing to the body. Turmeric offers various health benefits such as liver detoxification, antimicrobial, potent anti- cancer, and anti-inflammatory properties.

Apart from keeping you healthy and warm during the winter season, the golden milk is also great for promoting digestive health and boosting your brain function. It has also been seen to assist in strengthening the immune system and regulating your body’s metabolism.

Ginger, which is contained in the milk, contains anti-inflammatory properties and also enhances the assimilation and absorption of essential nutrients in your body. It also plays a big role in fighting the growth of cancer cells. It’s what makes it the ideal winter drink.

8. Hot Vegetable Broth

When faced with unending cold weather, nothing is more comforting than indulging in a bowl of hot vegetable broth. Ensure the broth is prepared using nourishing vegetables to assist in boosting your health.

Consuming a freshly prepared bowl of vegetable broth will give you the warmth you need to stay sane and provide the body with crucial dietary fibers.

9. Cinnamon Drink

Cinnamon is a popular spice mainly used to spice up different drinks and foods. The spice comes loaded with potent medicinal properties required to keep the body healthy. It also has important anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties. A cinnamon drink will also be good for your body as it will lower your blood sugar levels and boost your heart health. You can use it during the winter season to prepare a broad range of beverages.

You can choose to use milk with cinnamon or to prepare the drinks with the spice alone. Either way, you should end up with an outstanding drink for the winter season.

The Health Benefits Of Amino Acid L-Theanine In Tea

l-theanine tea amino acid antioxidant health benefits energy

Tea: coffee’s coy competitor in the cutthroat—yet throat-soothing—world of hot beverages. Both provide daily stimulant boosts, both are great to share with a loved one, and both are steeped in rich and complex histories. But popular teas (like green tea, black tea, and even tea extract and tea constituents) have something coffee doesn’t—an amino acid celebrated for its cognitive performance and wider health benefits: L-theanine. If you have a cup of green tea or black tea in front of you, take a sip and settle in.

Savor those tocopherols and flavonoids lending the cup its signature color and flavor. The tea leaves’ distinct bitterness is supplied by natural antioxidants known as catechins. But there’s another flavor you should be experiencing. A pleasant mouth-filling sensation that creates a rounded and savory taste. Umami, often called the fifth taste after bitter, sour, sweet, and salty. Tea’s umami flavor is all thanks to the non-protein amino acid, L-theanine. Table of Contents Brain Boost Stress and Anxiety Sleep Focus and Attention Memory Body Builder Immune System Cardiovascular System Supplementing with L-theanine Last Drops In this article, we won’t just stick to why tea is so tasty.

We’ll talk about the positive effects L-theanine can have on your stress levels, cognitive performance, and cardiovascular and immune health. Brain Boost A healthy body starts with a healthy brain. L-theanine has proven itself to be a powerful supplement for brain health by assisting with stress, sleep, attention, and memory. Stress and Anxiety If you’ve ever brewed a cup of tea to decompress from a stressful day or share with an anxious friend, congratulations—you have fabulous instincts.

Researchers have found L-theanine can reduce our physiological stress responses by altering the behavior of neurotransmitters in the brain. But this isn’t a slow, thirty-days-to-better-behavior modification process. L-theanine is tough, immediately jumping on defense. Taking L-theanine is like hiring a bodyguard for your brain. Our brains balance activity through excitatory (upper) and inhibitory (downer) neurotransmitters. You’ve probably heard of some of the major excitatory neurotransmitters like dopamine and serotonin.

But the balance can shift through an excess of these excitatory neurotransmitters and cause classic responses we’re familiar with: stress, anxiety, and activation of the sympathetic nervous system (also known as the fight-or-flight response). Taking L-theanine to mimic gamma-aminobutyric acid (a neurotransmitter that blocks impulses between nerve cells in the brain) can inhibit these excitatory responses and ease their physiological stress responses, allowing you to enjoy lower heart rate, lower blood pressure, attenuation of the fight-or-flight response, and reduced cortisol levels (major stress hormone).

If the classic calming effect isn’t revealing enough, let’s pull back the covers on how deeply relaxing L-theanine can be. Sleep To catch some Zs, first we have to catch some waves. During sleep, it’s all about theta waves and delta waves. Theta waves occur in the first stages of sleep and generate two distinct rhythms of greater amplitude and lower frequency than our waking beta waves. Delta waves are the lowest frequency, highest amplitude waves generated during the deepest stages of sleep. But right before sleep, when you’re still in that day dreaming, more relaxed state, it’s all about the alpha waves. The brain generates alpha waves during deeply relaxing activities, such as meditation.

If you struggle to feel peaceful during meditation or get your mind to achieve that quiet calm right before bed, L-theanine can help to take you there. Studies have shown that L-theanine can generate alpha brain waves in the parietal and occipital regions of the brain, leading to a prolonged calming effect.

In a placebo-controlled study of young individuals with ADHD, L-theanine proved especially effective in helping them get to sleep and experience deep sleep. Sleep problems are often a concern for individuals with ADHD, and L-theanine proved to be a safe and effective therapy to improve sleep quality. Even if you don't have ADHD, you may benefit from taking L-theanine before bed. However, drinking the amino-acid rich green tea before bedtime may not be the best idea though. Caffeine is a sneaky stimulant. Luckily, you can get all the tranquility of L-theanine without the caffeine boost by taking Yawn, HVMN’s non-habit forming sleep aid. In addition to L-theanine, Yawn contains other REM cycle saviors like magnesium glycinate, amino acid L-glycine, and the classic melatonin for better sleep quality.

Focus and Attention L-theanine has the power to both calm you down in the evenings and provide a boost in the morning. You know those days; poor sleep quality from the night before leaves you dull, each excruciating minute stretched out between sips of coffee. But all that coffee can have a negative build up, leading to a jittery, on edge feeling while desperately trying not to fidget during your conference room presentation. If you’re ready to sacrifice the coffee, but not the caffeine, HVMN has Sprint to get your day going.

This nootropic stack features L-theanine, caffeine, and the added bonus of ginseng to reduce fatigue. Like the name, Sprint is made to get your mind moving quickly and keep it alert for up to six hours. It’ll provide you with that ideal mental flow to be focused, productive, and energetic without all the jitters. The same amino acid that ushers you into dreamland can also deliver an attentive state of mind. Multiple human studies show that consuming L-theanine can increase focus, reaction times, and visual processing while reducing mental fatigue.

Essentially, subjects in these human studies performed attention tasks better after taking L-theanine. Their overall mental performance improved. Even when the mind is in a relaxed state and creating those alpha waves, it’s focused. Consider meditation: its goal is mindfulness, focusing on an inner calm. Meditating is a form of dialed-in concentration that also happens to be calming. Memory Maybe you’re a morning master, but you can’t remember the names of half your closest coworkers. Enter L-theanine, which can assist with memory. To be clear: drinking a single cup of green tea will not suddenly remind you of where you left your keys. However, consuming L-theanine over time could help protect the neurons in your brain from injury or death to mitigate cognitive impairment and contribute to the development of the hippocampus (which, sadly, is not the future academic grounds of the large semi-aquatic African mammal). But it is the part of your brain responsible for storing memories.

Start young, and you could even stand a better chance against the oxidative damage and memory impairment of Alzheimer’s. Oh, and remember how we talked about L-theanine reducing cortisol levels? Cortisol can negatively impact memory retrieval. Reduce cortisol levels, and you may be able to retrieve those memories a little more easily. We’ve touched upon what L-theanine can do for the brain, but let’s not forget about its benefits for the body. Body Builder L-theanine couldn’t let your brain have all the fun. So freshen up your tea, and let’s talk about what your new amino acid can do for your body.

Unfortunately, L-theanine is not the cure for the common cold or other pesky immune system ailments. But it has been linked to increased protection against the flu and a boost in immune function when combined with another amino acid, L-cystine. This combination improves the production of Immunoglobin G (IgG), an antibody with a vendetta against infection, and glutathione (GSH), an antioxidant. Antioxidants are valuable because they help our bodies remove free radicals. Free radicals are these unpaired, unstable, thieving little molecules that steal electrons from our lipid cell membranes (also called lipid peroxidation). The theft causes tissue and muscle damage and contributes to some of the big name diseases out there: diabetes, heart disease, and cancer. L-theanine has demonstrated powerful antioxidative properties.

Because antioxidants help us to remove many free radicals that can lead to cardiovascular problems like heart disease, L-theanine can do some pretty amazing things for heart health. Tea leaves from green tea and black tea on their own have been shown to improve cardiovascular health. And L-theanine sweetens the deal through its ability to mitigate blood pressure increases when the user undergoes acute stress. Translation? Less strain on the heart. Supplementing with L-theanine Not a fan of green tea or black tea? Healthy adults can safely and easily supplement L-theanine at a dosage of 100-200 mg per day, a staggering five to ten times higher concentration than what you’ll find in a cup of green tea.

So even if you’re already pounding cup after cup of the umami taste bomb, you may not be enjoying all of its benefits...or at least not as efficiently. Consider supplementing with L-theanine to warm up for your day or to cool down at the end of it. L-theanine hasn't been linked to any adverse side effects or symptoms in the neuropharmacology sphere, but bear in mind that it should not be mixed with medications taken for high blood pressure because L-theanine reduces blood pressure. As with all new supplements and medications, consult with your healthcare provider before taking. Whether you’re a coffee connoisseur or a tenacious tea drinker, your mind and body will enjoy the benefits of adding L-theanine to the mix.

To recap, the health benefits of this tea include: Reduced levels of stress and anxiety Increased sleep quality Increased focus, attention, and memory Increased immune function Increased cardiovascular health Antioxidative properties No matter what’s in your cup, we can all raise a glass to those health benefits!

7 Cheap Ways to Do a Full Body Detox

cheap full body detox cleanses frugal cleanse fiber antioxidants

Do you feel like you are in a permanent state of sluggishness? Do you always feel weighed down from being bloated? If your answer to these two questions is yes, you may benefit from a full body detox.

While you can go into detox with the determination and drive to put your body back on track It’s easy to back down once you see the price tag on some of the methods. We’re here to tell you to not to give up so soon on your cleansing goals.

There are ways that you can cleanse cheaply that are just as effective as the options with a dollar tag. Keep reading for a few ways to detox your body on the cheap.

7 Frugal Ways To Do Cleanses

1. Drink Water with Lemon

When it comes to detox, water is key. You want to load yourself up on the stuff. Drink a hot glass of water in the morning coupled with a bit of lemon juice to get your liver awake with you.

If you don't enjoy the bitter taste that comes with lemon you can substitute it with apple cider vinegar. It allows you to absorb iron and vitamin B and increase how much stomach acid you produce.

During the day it's tempting to drink coffee to get you through work. This is fine but you want to drink 8 ounces of water for each coffee that you chug to flush your kidneys.

2. Sweat it Out

One effective and free way to get rid of toxins in your body is to sweat them out. Incorporating a morning jog into your daily routine can get your blood pumping and the sweat pouring.

If you don't like the idea of exercise the only requirement here is to sweat. You can get the same effect by visiting a sauna. The only thing you miss out on is the feel-good endorphins that are released in your brain when you exercise.

3. Eat Nutrient-Enriched Food

Your body can't go through a proper detox if you don't give it the right supplies. In this case nutrient-enriched foods. So, head to your local grocery store and grab some of these amazing detox foods.

  • Leafy greens
  • Broccoli
  • Citrus fruit
  • Brazil nuts
  • Beets
  • Fermented veggies
  • Raw milk
  • Pasture-raised eggs
  • Cod liver oil
  • Wild caught fish

Some of these items are more expensive than others but you can always wait for sales and then bulk up.

4. Reduce Your Sugar Intake

The only thing that could make that cup of coffee worse is piling on the white sugar. Sugar acts as an inflammatory. It stops up your GI tract and gets in the way of detox.

This doesn't mean that you should be dipping into the Splenda and artificial sweeteners. They can hold as many toxins as regular white sugar.

If you want to sweeten your drinks go with more natural methods such as honey, coconut sugar, maple syrup, and molasses.

5. Calm Down On the White Bread

As good as peanut butter sandwiches on white bread are, you want to avoid them. The bread specifically. White flour and bread clog up your digestive system. You need your digestive system to have normal bowel movements.

It's a domino effect really because you need normal bowel movements to clear out toxins from your body. If you can't get it out of your body it sort of sits there. Not very productive.

Instead of halting progress by reaching for the sandwich bread grab Kamut flour, quinoa flour, cornmeal, brown rice flour, buckwheat, or whole grain bread.

6. Sleep

Your body can't do much without a good night's sleep. You want to lay down in your bed by at least 10 pm and sleep for a full 8 hours. During this time your body will enter a rest state and start to repair itself.

During this repair process, your body will flush toxins out. It can't do that if you stay up until midnight and are restless throughout the entire night. If you find it impossible to get to bed at a reasonable hour, take a moment to think about your process.

If you tend to eat large meals before bed this can stop you from sleeping because the food will back up. You'll experience awful heartburn which will leave you tossing and turning.

If you scroll through your phone before bed that can disrupt the sleep process. If you must read something before bed, grab a book. If you tend to work on your bed you'll want to stop because your body will start to associate your bed with work.

There is more advice we could give you to get yourself to sleep so your body can detox but these are just the basics.

7. Try Gentle Methods

Do you want to try and ease yourself into detox safely? There are a couple of easy and cheap methods for doing that as well. You can soak in a warm bath with Epsom salts.

You can also try castor oil packs and getting a massage. These options won't completely detox you like some of the others on this list but they will lay down a good foundation for safe methods of detoxing.

How to Do a Full Body Detox On the Cheap

Have you been feeling bloated and sluggish lately? You may be able to benefit from a full body detox. While you may think that it's too expensive to accomplish you would be wrong.

There are plenty of ways that you can do a detox and stay within a reasonable budget. Try out some of the options on this list to start feeling like yourself again.

Half of the battle of detox is picking out the right foods to eat. Check out the recipe section of our blog for a few awesome options.

Major Health Benefits Of Wine And The Premium Brands To Consider

health benefits wine champagne premium brands dom perignon antioxidants

Everyone prefers to have a glass of wine to be served with a nice dinner. Especially when we gather for a celebration or a wedding eve, a premium wine always finds its way to the dining table. For centuries now, wine is considered to be the center of happiness and inevitable in celebrations. Wine relaxes, and nerves and minds and also can bring smiles to our faces, though at a limited quantity.

In fact, beyond this mental happiness and hype it offers, it is said that vine has a characteristic which help improve our physical health also on consuming wine in moderate quantity. People may have heard that a glass of wine once in a while is good for health, but how exactly it is based on medical research. In fact, there are many studies done in favor or adverse to consumption of wine, but as a general notion, even doctors admit that minimal consumption of wine is good for health.

Some latest studies also back up the health benefits of wine intake in moderate amount. Ranging from decreased mortality rates to fighting cancer cells, wine at one end can go a long way when it comes to is health benefits. Before we talk further about the health benefits of wine though, we may first stalk about the pore size of it. It may be hard to exact gauge the most appropriate pour size given the different shapes and sizes of wine glasses we use. There are many countries where people love oversized wine glasses; however, medical experts don't suggest this as proper pour.

An ideal wine glass is about 5-ounce pour. While considering moderate drinking, it means two glasses for men and one glass for women, ideally. Now as we have a better insight towards the pour, let’s explore some benefits it may offer.

1. Wine Contains Antioxidants

We are battling against the free radicals in our body, which pave the way to terrible health issues like cancer, in which wine can have a positive impact. It is known that wine consists of a lot of antioxidants which will attack the free radicals. When considering the fighting free radicals benefits of wine, it is ideal to consider white wine than red.

Research by the University of Barcelona had proven that phenols in white tend to have more antioxidants when compared to red wine. This is an interesting fact to know against the common belief that red wine has more benefits in terms of health.

About Dom Perignon Vintage Vine

Dom is a premium vintage vine, which got its name after the famous Benedictine monk Dom Perignon who pioneered in the production of this super-fine wine; however, in contrary to popular belief, it is not him who invented the champagne method of preparing sparkling wines.

He pioneered his unique winemaking techniques in the 1670s and was the first who blended grapes in the current way to improve wine’s quality with a proper balance between the elements to taste good as a whole. He also succeeded in producing white wines from dark grapes through proper manipulation of presses and also enriched the champagne wines tendency to retain natural sugar to induce a secondary fermentation.

The first vintage variety of Dom Perignon was made in 1921 and got released in 1936. Back in 1935, about 300 bottles of the vintage 1926 precursor of Dom Pérignon were sold to the Simon Bros. & Co., which used to import Moët in the UK. They gifted two bottles each of the best customers on their centenary.

Until the year 1943, Dom Perignon wine was produced from the regular Moët & Chandon vintage champagne which was then shifted to special 18th century-styled bottles. Again in 1971, Shah of Iran also ordered the Dom Perigon of the first vintage batch of Dom Pérignon Rose during the 2,500-year celebration of the great Persian Empire.

In 1981, it was Dom Perignon which was chosen for the special serving on the royal wedding of Lady Diana and Prince Charles. The Dom Pérignon Vintage 1961 magnums which were served on the occasion had a special insignia which was meant just for this ceremony.

Some varieties of Dom Perignon available online for purchase now are:

– 2006 Moet Chandon Dom Perignon
– 2009 Moet Chandon Dom Perignon
– 2008 Moet Chandon Dom Perignon
– 2008 Moet Chandon Dom Perignon

Let’s get back to the many health benefits of wine.

2. Wine Helps To Boost Immunity

Along with ensuring your daily share of vitamins, drinking a glass of wine may also give an additional boost to your immune system. A minimal amount of alcohol consumption is also showed to ward off many infections and can keep the immune systems always in check. However, don't get carried away with this reassurance. Anything in excessive amount may also lead to largely negative effects.

3. Wine Will Help Increase Bone Density

As we grow older, human bones tend to get much brittle. You may try to increase calcium intake also by drinking more milk. However, sipping a relaxing glass of wine will help to boost your mental stimulation also along with getting this additional benefit. Red wines seem to have a larger level of silicon, which is ideal for enhancing bone mineral density. It helps to increase bone density and thereby reduce the chances of osteoporosis. Like a glass of warm milk, wine may also help you to doze off calmly at night

4. Wine Reduces The Risk Of Stroke

Moderate amount of wine helps prevent blood clotting at veins. Wine seems to at as natural blood thinner, which helps break up blood clots and help reduce the risk of stroke. It is noted that the impact of wine in reducing blood clots is more effective in women than men. As we'd seen above, red wine contains phenols which have blood thinning properties similar to that of aspirin. Resveratrol is the compounds in wine, which is largely found in red grape skin, that helps to protect against stroke.

However, one should be careful that only minimal to moderate consumption of wine offers this benefit of preventing stroke, on the other hand, heavy drinkers may likely to have the opposite effect, i.e., a greater risk of heart diseases and stroke. Keep your drinking to a minimum to enjoy maximum health benefits and minimize your risk!

I hope you enjoyed this blog post about the major health benefits of wine and the top premium brands to consider drinking.

Evaluating The Efficacy & Cost Of Vitamin C Supplements

Vitamin C is an important and required micronutrient that we need for overall health and scurvy prevention among many other things. It is found naturally in citrus fruits and other healthy foods, but not all of us get enough from regular meals. But how useful are Vitamin C supplements and are they worth the price? Frugal Fitness investigates:

General Information

Vitamin C is important because it is a powerful antioxidant that can destroy free radicals and help to stimulate the immune system. It is also important for other daily bodily functions and processes. While I do not recommend taking mega-doses of Vitamin C, a capsule or tablet supplement per day or when you are feeling under the weather can help to make a difference. If you are perfectly healthy and consuming enough fruits and vegetables daily with your meals, you probably don’t need Vitamin C supplements.

Cost

A large bottle of Vitamin C tablets or capsules will run you about $10-15 and last you almost a year even if you took one every day. There are different forms of Vitamin C, Vitamin C with other vitamins, and Vitamin C with herbs such as Rose Hips but I wouldn’t pay extra for them.

Risks /Side Effects

There are no major side effects on record for Vitamin C since it is a water soluble vitamin. I usually take it with food anyways. I would recommend purchasing the bottle with the lowest amount of Vitamin C content, as this will still be 100% or less per serving. Taking 300%, or even 5000% will probably not have any more benefit than taking 100% and you will just end up excreting the rest of the Vitamin C your body did not utilize. If you take enormously large doses of Vitamin C consistently you may risk health problems.

The Cost & Health Benefits Of Green Tea

The benefits of green tea have been known for thousands of years. Green tea bags are considered food products while green tea with added herbs and green tea extract are considered dietary supplements. I would recommend at least 1-2 cups a day for increased metabolism and improved immune system. Green Tea Extract works similar to this but possibly to a lesser extent but it can be more convenient at times. (Don’t drink later than mid-afternoon or it may disturb your sleeping habits due to caffeine, unless drinking Decaf Green Tea). Green Tea has a very high concentration of antioxidants which help to positively stimulate your immune system to fight off sickness and excessive free radicals.

Green Tea also has a very high concentration of ECGC, as well as small-moderate amounts of caffeine, that significantly improve fat-burning. While Green Tea may not miraculously burn 10 lbs of fat overnight, it is an excellent addition to a fat loss diet and exercise regimen. Try substituting a cup or two of Green Tea instead of your coffee to improve overall health. Green tea extract is not as potent as the regular tea form so try to drink more instead. Bottoms up for better health and immune system!

Cost: A box of 20 tea bags will cost you around $4, you can usually get a much cheaper price if you buy store brand, unflavored, and/or in bulk. I’ve gotten 100 black tea or orange pekoe tea bags for $1 so there are definitely low enough prices out there for anyone’s price range. Green tea is usually slightly more expensive but you can get about 100 green tea bags for no more than $2 or $3. Green tea extract capsules are usually about $10 for 100 capsules but price may vary greatly depending on brand and what store you buy them. Overall, a great frugal and healthier way to get your caffeine fix!

Fantastic Frugal Fitness Foods Part 7

PART 4  |  PART 5  |  PART 6

5 More Fantastic Frugal Fitness Foods
The Final Five (Not Previously Mentioned)
Part 7 of 7

1.      Most Other Fruits
Many of our everyday fruits such as apples, oranges, pears, apricots, strawberries, raspberries, mangoes, cherries, bananas, grapefruits, etc are very cheap and excellent dietary staples. While each fruit has its own specific health benefits and cost, consuming 2-3 servings per day of fresh fruit in general will help to significantly improve your overall health. Just make sure you don’t have too many pieces of fruit late in the day, at once, or before you go to sleep due to their high carbohydrate content.

2.      Celery
Celery is another excellent frugal dietary staple. It is an excellent source of water, fiber, and has very low calorie content. It is famous for requiring more calories to chew and digest than it actually contains. Not everyone knows this but celery may also be a powerful vasodilator (blood vessel relaxer) that may lower blood pressure. Celery is almost never a bad decision to add to a meal or have as a snack. Try it by itself, with hummus, or natural peanut butter.

3.      Beans
Beans are a cheap and often overlooked nutritional staple for anyone no matter what their fitness goals may be. Dry beans are considered by most to be the healthiest, some of the best being  kidney beans, lima beans, pinto beans, and navy beans. They are very nutritionally dense foods packed with complex carbohydrates, fiber, protein, B-Vitamins, and minerals. They also antioxidants and fill you up so you are less likely to eat junk food. Obviously you want to avoid them in the form of refried beans or in fatty burritos.

4.      Quinoa
Quinoa is a seed that is a very healthy and cheap food choice. It is also gluten-free so it is an excellent source of complex carbohydrates for those with Celiac. This staple food, often confused as a grain, has all of the essential amino acids making it a rare plant source of complete protein. That makes it an essential staple next to soy for any vegetarian. Quinoa also contains plenty of fiber and minerals for overall health.

5.      Water
Water is probably the most important frugal food choice of all since our bodies are about 2/3 water. I didn’t want to include it in the Top 25 however since it doesn’t contain any calories and also sounds kind of lame. Water is crucial for health, performance, and weight loss no matter how you look at it. Drink as much as you can each day, especially since it is free!

5.      Soy Milk

Unless you are lactose intolerant or vegan, I would recommend drinking skim milk instead because it is about 1/3 of the cost. That being said, soy milk is still very good for you and not outrageously priced. Soy is one of the only major plant sources of complete proteins which makes it crucial for vegetarians. It is good first thing in the morning or post-workout because it is quickly broken down and absorbed by the body. Soy also has healthy fats, no cholesterol, and provides heart healthy flavenoids that reduce cholesterol levels. Soymilk can be purchased in several delicious flavors with added sugar or in plain form with less sugar than milk. If you don’t drink regular milk, I’d highly recommend adding soy milk to your diet. Don’t bother purchasing rice or almond milk since neither of them provide any significant protein.

Fantastic Frugal Foods Part Five

Enjoy These Five (More) Fantastic Frugal Foods!

Read PART 1 |  PART 2  |  PART 3 | PART 4

1.      Yogurt and Cottage Cheese
I’ve grouped these two together because they are both cheap, delicious, and convenient dairy sources of complete protein, calcium, and vitamin D. Yogurt can also be a great source of live healthy bacteria cultures that can improve digestive health. It’s a cheap, convenient, and delicious snack whether you are on the go, at the office, or even to enjoy slowly with nuts, fruit, or flaxseed toppings. Cottage cheese can be purchased in large containers pretty cheaply, there are plenty of competing brands, and there are low-fat or fat free options. Buy in bulk for extra savings or buy small containers to eat high quality protein on the go. With these two excellent options, you might want to bring a cooler with you on the go or invest in that mini fridge for your office.

2.      Red Grapes
Grapes are excellent and affordable sources of fiber, water, anthocyanins, flavenoids, and the powerful antioxidant resveratrol. Green grapes are not a source of resveratrol so I would try to eat more purple grapes than green. This is the same reason why red wine is touted as such a health tonic and white wine isn’t. Trust me when I recommend that you get your resveratrol from purple grapes, and raisins if necessary, and not from copious amounts of red wine. The former has plenty of other nutrients and health benefits while the latter’s high alcohol content will pretty much cancel out any real benefits gained. Also, I’d recommend sticking with purple grapes and raisins and avoiding the resveratrol and grapeseed extract dietary supplements until more studies are done to determine if they are worthwhile or not. If necessary, bring a box or two of raisins with you on the go for a light and healthy snack.

3.      Chick Peas and Hummus
Chick peas, the main ingredient in hummus, are very cheap to purchase by the can and provide excellent sources of healthy fats, fiber, and protein for your diet. You can also add chick peas to salads to make them more filling and flavorful. One of the best things about chick peas is that you can just eat or prepare them right out of the container, no preparation required! Convenient, delicious, and nutritious indeed. Hummus, a product of mostly chickpeas, is slightly more expensive to purchase but even more convenient for eating with vegetables and whole grain breads or crackers. You can also make your own hummus very cheaply and easily, there are recipes for homemade hummus later in this book.

4.      Carrots
Carrots are very cheap, low in calories, and packed with important nutrients. Carrots have a very high concentration of beta carotene, an antioxidant that is crucial for eye health. They also include high fiber content and many other micronutrients for overall health. Add them to all kinds of soups and salads, steam them, or just munch on them raw. Sorry but carrot cake doesn’t count!

5.      Sweet Potatoes
Sweet potatoes are an excellent form of slow-digesting, complex carbohydrates. Sweet potatoes do not spike your blood sugar like their more common counterpart and are an excellent carbohydrate source for anyone trying to lose bodyfat. They also include many other micronutrients and even antioxidants. They are very cheap to buy and an easy addition to any lunch or dinner. If you are aggressively trying to lose weight, limit yourself to one sweet potato at or after dinner at the most due to its high (but healthy) carbohydrate content.
