HIIT Diet Tips: What To Eat Before And After Workouts

hiit diet tips eating before after workouts high intensity interval training exercise

Many people like high-intensity interval training nowadays due to one simple fact – it is really efficient. With HIIT you will get great results in a short period of time. Of course, this kind of workout is quite exhausting and challenging, that is why it is so rewarding.

However, many people still don’t realize how important it is to have a proper diet follow their workout regimen. Without proper food, your body won’t be able to build muscle which means that you can’t get shredded if you eat junk food.

So, take a look below and learn what type of nutrition you need to support a HIIT workout program.

Healthy Foods To Add In General

No matter what workout regimen you are on, you should know some ingredients that always need to be a part of your diet. It is common knowledge that junk food is a major no-no, but what other foods should you add?

Go for whole grains, fruits, veggies, and lean proteins. When you start crafting your nutrition plan, it is important that you have adequate calories and macronutrients included. Carbs are needed to fuel the body and provide energy stores for workouts.

You shouldn’t cut off too many foods you like, people sometimes forget that restrictive diet inhibits their wellness success. Instead, cut snacks, unhealthy fats and alcohol. Aim at clean foods and always stay hydrated. Especially during your workouts. This should come as one of the most important muscle building principles.

Nutrition Before Workouts

Seeing that these workouts are really difficult, it’s important to follow a healthy nutrition plan with adequate nutrition in the days and hours before a workout. You need to plan a moderate- to high-carb meal that also includes protein. This meal should be prepared and eaten three to four hours before the workout.

Then go for a high-carb snack within an hour after the workout. Some good options for a meal before the workout include whole-wheat toast with peanut butter and banana or non-fat Greek yogurt with dried fruit and almonds.

Nutrition After Workouts

Once you are done with your workout, you have depleted energy levels. That’s perfectly fine, that needs to happen. However, the main concern after a workout is the replenishment of energy. To be precise, you need to replace energy stores and thus repair muscles that have been broken down during the intense workout.

Again, you need to aim at a combination of carbs and protein. That is the most effective way to replenish energy stores. Aim at a 3:1 ratio of carbs in preparation for the next HIIT workout. Take a look at some suggestions for meals following you HIIT workouts

You could eat whole-grain cereal with fruit and soy milk, you could also go for whole-wheat crackers with fruit and cheese. If you really rely on bread and can’t say no to it, try to replace it with hummus and pita bread.

These are great substitutes since they aren’t as harmful as your usual bread but they can still make you feel full nonetheless.

List Of Ingredients You Need To Have Home If You Like HIIT

Some ingredients that you need to stock up on are:

● Hummus and whole-grain pita chips
● Chicken breast
● Veggies
● Fruits like apple, pear, banana, berries
● Peanut butter
● Greek yogurt
● Cottage cheese
● Quinoa with berries
● Nuts

As you can see, some of these foods and snacks have been mentioned above. To ensure that you stay on track when it comes to your diet, always have these ‘ingredients’ home. That way you can always grab something to eat whenever you feel food cravings.

Only this time you won’t hurt your gym progress or anything like that. These will make it easy for you to make your perfect combination of carbs and proteins both for your pre-workout and post-workout meals and snacks.

Conclusion

Never forget that good diet is as important as the effort you put in on a regular-day basis in the gym. Proper diet is the other important ingredient of a successful gym journey.

So, do your best to stay disciplined and choose only the right ingredients for your meals. Oh, and always stay hydrated.

Get In Shape With HIT FIT Sport Workouts

HIT FIT Sport, or High Intensity Training Fitness Interval Training, is a workout system built around a unique combination of exercise science and athletics. Let's take a look at this unique method of working out:

What Workouts Comprise HIT FIT?

HIT FIT combines a unique combination of typical fitness along with sporting elements, such as the practice of Fencing or Karate. Some of the activities that are included in HIT FIT include:

- Fencing
- Martial Arts
- Dance
- Boxing
- Kickboxing

The types of activities that you participate in depends on the type of HIT FIT program that you join. Different instructors of HIT FIT have different methods. Regardless of the methods that your fitness coach uses to teach you HIT FIT, you will experience a unique exercise technique that will benefit your body more than a traditional fitness plan can accomplish.

HIT FIT Sporting Events

Participating in sporting events in the HIT FIT program is a big part of your training. Not only will these sporting events help you to achieve your fitness goals at a faster pace, but several of the sports can be used later in life, even after you complete your fitness goals. Sounds fun right? We think so!

What Does HIT FIT Concentrate On?

Well, the HIT FIT program is quite the unusual exercise system. This program focuses on the following aspects of the fitness world: Anaerobic Threshold Balance Body Composition Strength VO2 Max (maximal oxygen consumption).

HIT FIT Anaerobic Threshold

A basic definition of the HIT FIT Anaerobic Threshold is that it occurs when muscles "burn" creatine and glucose without the use of oxygen. Anaerobic Threshold is ideal for those who need that short extra burst in their life. On the flip side, Anaerobic Threshold training would not be ideal for a distance runner or endurance athlete.

HIT FIT Balance

Another important part of the HIT FIT way is the aspect of balance. A majority of people who participate in this exercise plan are athletes. These people require a great amount of agility and balance to succeed at what they do best. By having greater balance, you can even increase the efficiency of your workout and prevent injury

HIT FIT Physique

HIT FIT body composition is a way of describing the percentage of bone, fat, and muscle in your body. The HIT FIT system puts a lot of attention on the aspect of body composition, as it is vital to balance the mass percentages of bone, fat, and muscle in ones body. It's a great way to tone up along with a healthy balanced diet.

HIT FIT Strength

HIT FIT works with your overall body strength. Since the HIT FIT way of exercise revolves around sporting activities, it is important to have strength as it will give you the opportunity to push your body to the next level.

HIT FIT VO2 Max

What is VO2 Max? Basically, VO2 Max is another meaning for the maximal amount of oxygen consumption. It plays a very important role in HIT FIT as your VO2 Max directly determines how physically fit you are. Each person has a different VO2 Max. The max can be included over time through HIT FIT exercises.

Is HIT FIT The Right Fit For You?

So, is HIT FIT Sport right for you? While it's not for everyone, you should definitely consider this way to exercise. If you are interested in starting on a HIT FIT exercise plan, you should speak to your local fitness coach or gym trainer to see if such a program is offered.

Tips For Fitting Fitness Into A Busy Schedule On A Budget

fitness on a budget no excuses

Reaching their optimum fitness levels and maxing their absolute fitness potential is something that many people aspire to do. Unfortunately, however, life gets in the way. Specifically, their busy schedules get in the way and their lack of funds get in the way. But, there are ways to circumvent these unavoidable aspects of life that are the enemy of staying fit… you just have to be willing to put the hard work needed in to finding ways around them.

If you want to fit fitness into your busy schedule whilst operating on a tight budget, make sure to read on.

Bring The Gym To Your Home

The first thing that you should do when trying to get fit whilst operating on both a tight schedule and a tight budget is to forgo the gym completely and instead work out at your home. By doing so you instantly cut down the time taken getting yourself ready for the gym, the time taken travelling to the gym and the time taken waiting for others to be done with the equipment you want to use for your specific workout whilst at the gym. And, of course, when you don’t go to the gym you don’t have to pay the membership fees to have the privilege to do so, so you will be saving both time and money by not going to one.

So, bring the gym home to you and use all of the things in your home that can be used as workout machines as workout machines; you’d be surprised at just how handy your bathtub can be when it comes to doing this.

Prepare Healthy Meals In The Quickest & Cheapest Ways

Being fit is not just about working out, it’s about eating and drinking right. And, in order to eat and drink right whilst on a tight schedule you’re going to have to have to prepare good, wholesome foods in the quickest time possible. This could mean blending superfoods together and making yourself a green smoothie in the morning to consume throughout the day or getting yourself a healthy protein substance to provide you with the nutrients needed throughout your day to keep you on your feet and active. Both of these ventures do not demand a lot of time to be taken on preparing them and neither break the bank in regards to how much they cost.

Fit Frugal Fitness Into Your Schedule

As you can see, there are ways to fit staying in shape into a schedule that seemingly has no room for maneuvering and into a tight budget that is apparently unyielding. So, remember that the next time you try to use the excuse that you having no time or money is the reason why you are not taking your personal health and fitness seriously!

Does HIIT Exercise Work Or Is It A Marketing Ploy?

Frugal Fitness Workout Question:  Does High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) work or is it simply a marketing gimmick?

Frugal Fitness Answer:

I have a unique perspective on this because my degree is in exercise physiology and I spent 10 years as highly credentialed personal trainer / nutrition consultant… but I’ve transitioned to a career as a digital marketing manager full time over the last 5-6 years.

Anyways, High Intensity Interval Training as an exercise technique works very well. It's a staple in military style workouts that also carry over into fitness boot camps, sport practice training, group exercise classes, and other common formats. And depending on the equipment you use (or lackthereof) it can be a very frugal workout option. It’s an efficient way to burn calories, boost metabolism, improve endurance, and build lean muscle. Great for people short on time and/or training for some sports. Not quite as ideal for bodybuilders, powerlifters, or strictly endurance athletes like marathon runners. It depends on your purpose for training whether you should utilize HIIT for a portion of your workouts, or possibly the majority of your workouts.

But fitness marketing companies of course will exaggerate its benefits and claim it to have miraculous effects. It’s a great workout strategy for many people but it’s not necessarily the best option for everyone and it’s certainly not going to reverse years of inactivity and poor nutrition within a matter of weeks or even months.

Also keep in mind that “high intensity intervals” are relative to the person performing the exercise. What an elite athlete considers low intensity training could easily be considered high intensity for a sedentary or middle-aged person.

Hopefully this is helpful when deciding whether to incorporate HIIT into your frugal workout sessions.

Insane Incline Treadmill Training Workout

Contributed By Courtney Horan, Author of Sweet Tooth Sweet Life
Happy Tuesday evening my friends!
I just got home from a fabulous trip to the gym, AND I have a new workout to share with you. Aren’t you psyched? ;)
You may remember, a few weeks back, when I attempted a couple new cardio workoutsout of an old Self magazine that I have? Well, today I attempted a different one that was in there…ohhhh myyyyy
It isn’t so much the speed that makes this workout a challenge, it’s the incline. Talk about insane! So let’s call it…

It’s funny really…if I had done this workout at home, I definitely would have been satisfied with doing those 30 minutes and calling it a day. However, if I trek all the way to the gym, I always feel that I really have to make the most of my time there, so I end up doing more. SO, I hopped on over to the elliptical and did another 30 minutes of intervals.
Considering I had taken the entire weekend off from exercise, plus had a not-so-great workout yesterday morning (didn’t feel well, so ended up doing a Jillian Michael’s 30 Day Shred video off of Exercise on Demand…wasn’t as great as I remembered?) it felt awesome to get back to a little hardcore sweating. Those feel-good endorphins had been missed!

20 Minute Home Tabata Workout & Under $20!

Contributed By Maria Waldron, Author of Lift Love Life

It's a tabata workout which means you work as hard and as intensely as you can for 20 seconds, and then rest for 10 seconds. You repeat this 8 times which amounts to a total of 4 minutes and that's one tabata. Tabata's are meant to be quick, painful, and ultra intense. They're one of the fastest ways to get fit and lose fat in a short amount of time but the key is to make sure you go all out during the 20 second interval.

The first tabata consists of various exercises that work your whole body, again using only your body as resistance. The second tabata is a jump roping tabata, you don't need a jump rope since you can mimic the jump rope motion but I prefer to actually use one since I find I jump faster and harder with one. Speed Jump ropes are cheap and easy to find and they really do make a difference.

Use a gymboss to time your intervals. If you don't have one, this site works. And you can even download it onto your computer to use offline. How sick is that?

Remember, make sure you go hard, but never sacrifice form. And if you're not wanting to die at the end, you're not working hard enough.

Oh and moms, you might want to do some kegels before these ;)

With the next tabata, if you don't know how to perform crisscrosses or alternate food jumps, just jumprope the old fashioned way, you'll still get a great workout.

Repeat both tabatas for as many rounds as you can. And then STRETCH!

I tried to make a video to demonstrate the moves but that was an epic fail. If you follow my twitter, I tweeted about how I thought I had hit record but actually didn't. I did this 5 times before giving up and realizing the camera and I just aren't meant to be. I need my husband to record me because clearly I suck.

Also, I used a weighted jump rope (because my other one sucks now) so there was no way in hell I was going to go through another round just to try and make the video...what if it didn't record again? Pretty sure I would die and there would be no more blog posts. Sads.

Anyway, try this and let me know what you think. It's perfect for us busy moms or for those on the go and who don't have access to the gym. You'll get your heart pumping, build all over strength, burn fat and save yourself precious time. This is my new fave go-to workout!
